I am trail driveable and streetable. I still dont have my spare tire carrier built or tool storage bin built. The winch is installed. Things I need to do for sure is my hydro assist, Flares, new bearings for the 350. I'm currently getting almost 12mpg so I'll be driving for sure. About 380 bucks for gas for the trip. Wants for the trip are a front locker, new driveshafts, and a new set of tires. How is everyone else looking?

I haven't been able to test rusty out ~ its been raining cats and dogs out here and that has closed all the good trails :( ~ but I'm going out on Tuesday to run a real easy trail to make sure nothing obvious is wrong.
I may have found a tow rig. A 03 F250 w/ the triton gasser for $13k Looks good. May not be a PSD but with 117k on it I don't really want it. Point is, that its a crew cab and had the axles (read: brakes and strength) for towing. I can get over the power on hills, gas mileage will suck but I'm saving 20K in cost over a PSD so I'm good

You can get a good 94-98 dodge cummins for that price or less, easy.
I OVERPAID for 15,000 on my 1999.

GGGrrrrrr........
I keep seeing this thread and I wish I was going again this year. The trip last year was a blast.... the group was big enough to have fun, but wasn't so large that it was a huge pain in the ass to do anything. The peeps that were there last year were way cool too.... I'd wheel with any of them again any day... if they'd have me. :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
I've got over 170 hours of vacation on the books... I just don't have the coin this year after doing all the home improvement projects around the house.

I just bought a house so I'm not sure if I'll have the funding.the rig is ready otherwise.I did stumble into some 3.15 gears for the 18 and a 196.it would be nice to have those installed before the trip but I'll be fine without.

Mechanos you can ride with me and drive some if you want. You just have to promise not to park on flat ground and let it tip over. I welded a kickstand on it. I'm totally stoked. I had the money for my front locker but bought one of my DJ's a new laptop instead. Anyway yea if anyone wants to go and doesn't have a rig they are more than welcome to hitch a ride.

Is the run open to anyone?Ive never been on that trail.Maybe you can tell me if my truck can do it.Its A 1964 1 ton with 36" super swamper Irocs,4.88 ring and pinion,Detroit Lockers front and rear, power steering,8,000 lb PTO winch, flat bed,and the frame is chopped just behind the rear springs, the stock crawl ratio is 60.6 to 1.My biggest concern is tight squeezes, tight turns and ground clearance. With the big 1 ton diffs, theres not as much clearance underneath.Ed.

Dude I feel like your talking to me. I've never really wheeled my scout hard. I need to go on a few test runs prior to the Con so I can find any hidden issues. I have no clearance issues but I definatley feel I need hydro assist steering.

Nobody wants to be "that guy" that is holding everyone up on a run with their broke dick whatever, but honestly..... you can't worry yourself sick about it. Last year, I literally finished up my Scout less than a week before the trip. I had no time to take it anywhere for testing. Now, I'm not a fab expert by any means, but I'm not an idiot and I felt confident with what I had built. Confident enough that I put it on a trailer and hauled it 1800 miles to the Rubicon and wheeled the piss out of it for 3 days..... that was my shakedown run. Yeah, a couple little bugs were found, but nothing that sidelined me or kept off the trail or in camp.
I did break twice, but both of those were "normal" wheelin' breaks.... spit the caps out on an axle u-joint which wasted the inner & the outer, and exploded a CV joint in the rear driveline (low range wheelie in the Granite Bowl :shaking: ). One of those could have been avoided by supressing the "watch this" urge. I didn't have hydro-assist yet when I ran the 'Con last year.... it was plently doable, but was work manhandling the steering wheel. HA would have been a welcome feature, but definately wasn't necessary.
Bottom line is: build it well, inspect it, and WHEEL it. If you didn't scary-fab it.... don't worry about it. From my perspective, the 'Con has an awesome reputation, but in the end..... it's just a trail. You can make it extremely challenging or not so challenging in most parts just by the line you pick. There are near stock vehicles on 33's running it... a decently modded truck on 36's or 37's shouldn't have any problems.

...are you comfertable behind the wheel
Bingo...
9 times out of 10, it's not a case of "can the vehicle make it" ... it's a case of "can the driver get the vehicle to make it".

I'm not associated with the run this year, but I suggest you check with the "trail boss" on this run to see if he/they even want to mess with babysitting stockers on the trail. You can SERIOUSLY slow the pace of the run in stocker and they might not have the time for that. I believe I heard mention of trying to run the trail from one end to the other this year.

DJ, Seriously.. People ran that trail in COVERED wagons. Litterally THOUSANDS of rigs have gone through it nearly stock. In fact a bone stock rig can make it through as has been stated. It all depends on how hard of a line you want to take and if you want to be that guy. I think that it is cool you want to be prepared but there comes a point that you say "Yup I have though of everything I can" and go wheel the thing.

Rock Tractor and I have already discussed this. He's agreed to leave me where ever he feels like. But your right, he's/they arent doing any baby sitting.
For those of you who have been doing this for a while (Rock Tractor, Reuben, JoshC), would you say the trail has changed over the years. The last time I ran it was 2000 (with 32's and one front locker). The last time I was on the trial was 04, riding shot gun. Has the trail become something new?

I hate to be the one to tell you this Reuben, but you do sound like an asshole. You didnt even answer my questions.Maybe you need to work on reading comprehension. The questions were-Can anyone go on the run?Yes or no.Is the Rubicon too tight for A 1 Ton? Yes or no.At this point,I think I will just go see for myself.Hooah!

The week before we'll have a thread on who's showing up when. Start time is at 9:00 am that friday morning from Loon Lake.
Also depending on if everybody is trailering rigs or what depends if we go all the way through or if we go to the springs and then back out to Loon.
