So I have a set of built ford axles that I got for cheep. I'm looking into putting a Ford NP 435 trans and a 205 case then getting a bell housing adaptor to fit the motor. does anyone know if thier is enough room for the case and trans because a friend told me it might be to big to fit under the scout, its a 74 scout II Terra half cab. Has anyone done this before what kind of work had to be done if any to make them fit, thanks for any comments and suggestions, Joe.

there will be plenty of room, have you even looked under a scout to see how much room there is?

i've got a 205 behind a C-6. i had to modify the floor and tranny hump in front of the driver seat a little to clear the 205.

I used an IH T-19 with a Ford T-19 output shaft, shortened with a custom adapter originally with just the Ford 205 but now with a Ford 203 doubler. I would say if you want to keep it up above the bottom of the frame rails you might need to make floor mods.

I am currently working on putting a Ford 205 behind the IH 727 in a '76 Scout II. Havent got it up in there yet to see if there will be any clearance issues.

Thanks for all your info it helped a lot. Advanced adapters say they don't have an adapter to go from the NP435 to my straight six 258 any other good suggestion, or I'm going to have to get a motor.

A ford 300 will run circles around that 258!

I second that. Ford 300 sixes are great motors. Torquey suckers. A 300's got a gear driven camshaft, long stroke, and seven main bearings. A bit on the long side...but the extra length would probably be compensated for by the shorter Ford bellhousing. You could also go Ford 351W/5.8L if you wanna use an NP435 with a D/S NP205 TC. All factory Ford boneyard stuff...
The big Ford six would be cool. Performance stuff is even available from Clifford and others. You'd have something different (not another SBC swap) yet still servicable with common parts. Maybe I'll do this for my next Scout project (after the first two plus the pickup are all done). :shaking:

I believe I have a T-18 Trans now. Does anyone know if the bolt pattern from a jeeps strieght 6 258 is different then the scouts?

If you have a T18 just use stock ford T18 stuff to hook to the ford 205.......what am I not understanding here

Its a scout t-18 and I'm trying to make the 205 drop to the drivers side so what would I need? Advance Adapters does not make an adapter to do that

If you want to use the 435 behind the 258, all you need is the bellhousing from a 76-86 CJ with a T-150 or T-176, and a custom pilot bushing Novak makes. For more info on this, go to the link below. The Novak site tends to have more good infomation than AA does. The clutch linkage will require a little work, but shouldnt be too difficult.
