Anyone have any experience with the performance distributor from JT Outfitters?

I am looking into inreasing power on my FJ 60. I am looking at headers but am wondering about the EGR system. The Man-a-Fre "Powerpack" system look nice but a little expensive.

I figure if this distributor is worth the money I can upgrade myself with a header anf this distributor for a third of the "Powerpack" ($425.00)

I want to keep the stock carburator to advoid the problems I have read about Webers. The carb has been rebuilt by Jim C. with no noticable change.

What say you ?

NEW Performance Distributor for 1F and 2F
[19100NUS] $274.95

If you are looking for power, or just needing to freshen up your iginition system, then this distributor if for you. This is a BRAND NEW (not rebuilt) Factory Performance Distributor. Feature vacuum advance instead of the retard. Even features a dial to "tune"/ Works in all 1F and 2F Motors. This points triggered dstributor comes with cap and rotor button. This unit will bypass later style igniter boxes. For additional performance, we will add a Mel's Kit to make the unit solid state electronic ignition with just a two wire hook up. This distributor along with a Weber and a header will literally transform your old six into a screamer. No core charge, new clamp suggest with early (72 down) and late (81 up).

I am pretty sure the Mel's kit is a pertronix setup. Pertronix and the flamethrower coil are the best deal for a 2f motor! Not shure about the distributor itself. I have a 68 distributor, IIRC, with the pertronix setup on my 40. Been on there for about 6+ years. Never a bit o problem with it. Mark's offroad sells the pertronixs setup, give him call.

I cannot speak to the JTO unit directly since I have not seen it. I can tell you though that I sent a Pertronix kit out to Jim C last week to 'repair' a problem with a bogus electronic ignition conversion that Jim thought was a Mel's kit. Don't know the specifics. Might want to call Jim on that.

Considering a new dizzy retails for $300, that price for one WITH a electronic ignition SOUNDS like a screaming deal.

All that said, I think you MAY be disappointed with the results of a dizzy swap. I have had much better luck tweaking the 81 and newer carbs for more power over the years than selling customers on replacement distributors.;)

I scored a new Pertronix setup from Mark, thanks again Mark, but havn't installed it yet. I still need to re-wire my rig before I install. However, all the reading/research pointed to Pertronix being a good setup. Like Cardinal Fang mentioned, he's had his for 6 yrs and no probs. Evidently, Mark's got a newer Pertronix out that is supposed to be even better. Like version 2.0 or something.
Good luck,

Keep the stock ignition setup, it works great.
Perhaps if your ignitor went bad, you might consider this.
But it's not an upgrade to what you currently have.

Spend your money on a GOOD header.

I've got a DUI HEI and it has worked flawlessly throughout the RPM range. It has been in my vehicle here in the desert for almost 4 years with no issues.
