dog walker 04-19-2002, 07:55 PM On a Thursday? Ahh I guess most people get that day off! Except me!
Jeff
smurfsdad 04-19-2002, 07:56 PM Can the nonextreme but not skeered start a club of local and not so local people and compete ? If so an extra $100 to Blue Ribbon is in the deal.
garbageman 04-19-2002, 08:48 PM got all that ......but the day off:flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
smurfsdad 04-19-2002, 08:52 PM How hard can it be to take off the 4th of July ?
dog walker 04-19-2002, 09:05 PM How hard can it be to take off the 4th of July ?
For me, wed-Sat is my normal work week, so I would get holiday pay for working on thursday. I don't mind taking it off, but then I also want the weekend off for the Rubicon, so I guess I'll have to take the whole week off. It just sucks using 3 days PTO when thats about all I'll even have by then!
Jeff
Brandon 04-19-2002, 10:21 PM hmmm is the site determined allready? Is it where I think it is LOL
what kinda terrain we talkin here? I dunno if I am less than 95 db since my mufflers are shot
rockhog 04-19-2002, 10:39 PM Thursday is not the best day for alot of working wheelers. Why not that weekend?
Dennis 04-20-2002, 12:02 AM That takes me out, and I wasn't even officially in yet. I have to work Mon. thru Fri., all holidays included.
I vote for a weekend date.
Lance 04-20-2002, 01:31 AM Well I can say that I DO know where the proposed site is. and noone has EVER wheeled there. I have never been there. But it *should* be a KICK - FAWKING - ASSSSS place for an event. It's CLOSE to the Rubicon (Tahoe side) so plan on a long weekend and head to the Rubi after the event and give yourselves that long needed vacation. You'all deserve it. Gawd this is gonna ROCK.

Come awn Jeff,
Take the days off, come on out and let the TIN:skull:BENDERS whoop up on ya, then we can head over to the Con and Ill even hold back on some of the trail so that POR can feel like they are the king of their castle.:D
H8monday 04-20-2002, 04:50 AM Rich,
For clubs that have more than 3 viable competitors, can they feild a second, 3 rig team. I know the Pirates and the TIN:skull:BENDERS could easily field more than 3 competetive rigs. It would still come down to the best combined score of the individual 3 rig team.
Hell I was thinking it would be hard to choose the TIN:skull:BENDER team when, there was an assumed 5 rig team.
So can we enter a T:skull:B-1 and T:skull:B-2 team?
Broncrick 04-20-2002, 07:09 AM Let me know if there is anything I can do to help Rich, and Brandon's still got your cones :p (thanks again for use of them)
Let me know~
Big Rich 04-20-2002, 08:14 AM Here is the list of teams as I understand it to be as of this time and date:
Mountain High Toys
Pirates
Tinbenders
Far-N-Gone
Zombies
Sierra Rock Crawlers
URJB (?)
River City Rock Crawlers
That is a total of 8 teams and 24 vehicles per course, I believe we can support a total of 10 teams (30 vehicles) per course.
Therefore room for 2 more teams (6 vehicles), preference will be given to teams/clubs not already signed. If a club wishes to back out of the competition for whatever reason, their entry fees will be forfeited to charity. All entry fees must be paid by May 15th, or clubs that have stated they will compete lose face and will be punished:D :D :D
Rich
Please pick the captains of your teams, and send me the contact information that has been requested (if not already sent).
Brandon 04-20-2002, 10:12 AM suspense is killin me LOL
3 years of building my junk and I'm gonna go balls out to destroy it LOL. So, steep hilly stuff or boulder playground? I know - wait n see :p

Brandon 04-20-2002, 12:24 PM just sorta hit me that the date is the 4th, not sure I can do that either :(
FLASHLIGHTMAN 04-20-2002, 02:33 PM Sounds like fun, unfortunetly I too can not make the 4th.
A Weekend event sure would be easier!!
just my $.02
Bigtoy22 04-20-2002, 05:08 PM damnit i can do it all except the registration. green sticker work?
I can say that Team URJB will have at least 3 rigs present ...probly more, fighting over who gets to run;)
Big Rich 04-20-2002, 07:32 PM Green stickers will be ok, along with proof of insurance.

rockrunner64 04-20-2002, 10:14 PM so have you decided where it will be held?
Sillyneck 04-20-2002, 10:19 PM how loud is 95 dB? I don't know if you heard my exhaust at carnage on the con last year but that'll be similar again.
Big Rich 04-20-2002, 10:53 PM Yes we have decided were it will be, but we ain't tell'n...... hint.....
Phil make sure your under 95 dB....don't want to be wak'n the dead....:D :D :D

Danger Ranger 04-22-2002, 06:59 AM Rich,
would temporary operating permits be acceptable in place of registration? for those who have issues getting rigs smogged...
BigDan 04-22-2002, 09:53 AM Hey Big Rich How the hell do you register and insure a Rock Buggys???? I think alot of other clubs will be running into these problems. I thought this was a Rock Crawling event not a Daily Driver Shootout. Let me know.

Tin Bender 04-22-2002, 02:06 PM I've been watch'n this post for a while...... Here is my .02
This whole "thing" was started as a CLUB event for brag'n rights..
It has now become WAY to "organized"...
See, there are LOTZ of clubs out there with a couple real nice rigs, but only a very few with 5-10 nice rigs.. My point? How can you measure a "club" with only 3 rigs running?
It has now become JUST LIKE everyother event.. ME -vs- YOU.
Open up the field to 10 rigs per club, and I'll be happy..
and if you don't have 10 rigs that can handle it, then your club aint up for CLUB brag'n rights...:skull:

Are you SURE you read the thread? :flipoff2:
Let's do the math:
8 Clubs. 10 drivers/rigs per club.
= 80 competitors.
That's 20 more competitors than ARCA.
They limited it to 3 vehicles per team PER OBSTACLE. So that means that with the 3 obstacles they are planning on having, that you could technically have 9 drivers/rigs in the competition. Make sense?
Flatty 04-22-2002, 02:52 PM I thikn the idea that this is FOR the con is great, but I also gotta agree with Tin Bender on this one. It all started as a "club" challenge. WE had 4 clubs that really like d to talke smack about ewach other so we said well lets gegt it AWN in the box and see who comes out on top., and the Pirates won that one. I like the idea of getting this going again, but this is getting VERY political. I mean now we have a fully sanctioned event basically. I really appreciate Rich getting on this, and the work he is doing is TOP NOTCH, but what ever happened to the run what you brung get in and GET IT event where my club will spank yours. I mean don't get me wrong The way this is going is kick ass, but at the same time lets not name it after the first one. This is a completly different event in a manner of speaking. But what do I know, I broke coming in at the last event. Just my .02

Is that 95dB at idle? or at say uuuhhh 5,200 RPM? :D
Air Ride 04-22-2002, 05:27 PM I think the key is to keep this a club event. I agree with Bender 3 rigs is to small a group. You should have to have at least 5 rigs to enter.
Unfortunately there is no way it could be like last year unless the original clubs got together and had the competition is secret some where.
Big Rich 04-22-2002, 08:27 PM Look I was just trying to help out here.....If you all would rather do this some other way fine....Talk about among yourselfs and get back to me.....Later
Flatty 04-22-2002, 08:43 PM Rich, I think this is a great idea, and I commend you for stepping up to take hold of this and run it this way. I thikn we are doing this for a great cause, and even if I amn not running I wil donate money for this cause. Rich, I would love to help you in any way possible. All I was trying to say was this has gone in a whole other direction than where it was last year. I am not saying this is a bad thing, or a good thing for that matter. It is a good thing that it is no longer in the con because that only caused trouble from what I hear. PLease do not take what I wrote as a mockery of you or your idea here. I did not mean it that way in any means. I know ti is easier to sit on the sidelines and criticyze, which is not my intentio at all. I will be more than happy to help you out in any way possible, just let me know.

Whoooaa, Rich is just trying to help all of us, and the cause. I liked the idea of doin' it on the con too, but can understand the problems involved with that.

I understand, and hear what your say'n Lance, but you have to see my point too.
Fatty had a good point, the WHOLE reason that this started, was because of your site, and the sh1t talking (all in fun) that was going on (and still go's on) between "clubs". Now there are !9! Clubs that wan't in.... Hell, I haven't met or even know 1/2 of um, much less have ANY kind of relationship with them. (not that I wouldn't like too)
The POR and the Benders have always been close, the Benders and the Zombies have always made fun of each other and we ALL know that the SRC guys just suck :flipoff2:
I willing to bet, that IF there where 9 cubs running that 1/2 of the guys would "make up" a "club" just to run...
Am I make'n any sence?
I LOVED the way that the last one started, and the way it went down... kinda like you and your boyz meet me and my boyz after school, and we'll see.....:skull:
It was such a success that it could never be the same without it be'n "secret"..
I like the idea of the 5+ rigs from each club. like I siad before, there are LOTZ of guys with nice rigs... but only a select few clubs with enuff nice rigs to be in..
Hell, lets trim it down even MORE and say 10 rigs...NOW how many clubs think they have 10 solid rigs that would have what it takes to BRING IT??
The TIN:skull:BENDERS have 20 rigs that could and would compete....
In my eyes, this was meant to show who the Baddest CLUB was, not which club had a few members with Bad rigs....
H8monday 04-23-2002, 12:15 AM WTF
Last year, was last year!
It was a very unique competition.
It was a spontaneouse result of 4 clubs, who were ready and willing to go head to head, in front of the world to settle, who was the top dawg.
Well, that was then, this is now!
And just like last year, "You can either show up, or not show up".
And at the end of the day, we will know which club is the best.
Its not a debate, it is the parameters for this years competition.
If you want to be a part of it, this time around, then do what you need to do.
If not then look at the pictures aqnd listen to the stories afterwards.
Get It, Rich!
And thanks for making it happen.

H8monday 04-23-2002, 12:24 AM Hahaha, Hey TB, I started posting, before I knew you were gonna write a novel about nostalgic rock crawling competitions.
Damn it Bender, stand up straight, and look sharp, and wipe that smile off your face, we have a competition ahead of us.
Lets get it!
Tin Bender 04-23-2002, 12:30 AM our time is almost done.... Your a TRUE BENDER to the end!!!! There aren't to many people who would pack up and move thier whole family just to get an "inside" line on what it takes to come out on top...:D

Yeah, its been a really tough assignment, they have dragged me out on numerouse trails, where I have been coerced to point my rig uphill, and find a way to make the top. They very often, made me spectate as thier bikini clad women, gave rock crawling demonstrations. Most times, I was enfluenced, to drink beer and alcoholic beverages, in the evenings, around the campfire, and on occasion even participated in Disco Ball rituals. :rasta:
Its been very tough, I have also been forced to strip hundreds of pounds of weight off of the rig, and extend the wheel base just so I wouldnt be the "Lonesome TIN:skull:BENDER at the bottom of the hill. Yeah I could give it up in a second, and head towards Benderville,.... but, Kathy seems to like it here, so Ive gotta stay to keep her happy.

Won? No. Just at this time in the battle we do not need to stoke their fires. The less attention we get, the more they will focus on something else. It would be nice if they would focus on something else that they feel they need to sacrafice their feeble lives* for wouldn't it?
*feeble lives - living their lives fighting to try and make people miserable that are trying to have fun, in the meantime not EVER having a LIFE and having fun themselves. (personal definition)
Wilson 04-23-2002, 01:42 AM I sucks to exclude people, but I like the 5 rig idea. Maybe allow the clubs from last year for sure. And also only allow real clubs. Is URJB a real club or just a group of guys with a title that they don't even know what it means? every other group on the list I recognize. If this whole thing ends up falling apart I guess that the pictures from the "secret comp" will have to suffice.

Ok I guess what I'm saying is before I go any further, if the "captains" will talk about how they'd like to see this thing happen, them DO it.
If you do not come up with any other ideas, I'm going to run with it as it is and try and help out A Rubicon/Tahoe Forrest defense fund, with all the teams or not.
By the way my feelings won't be hurt if you want/or come up with changes. But if no one acts, nothing is accomplished, except talk.
So "PUT UP OR SHUT UP"

The only thing I think you should change is only allow "real clubs" in the competition. I understand that everyone wants to take part in this, but we should only allow real clubs in it. Thats all I gotta say.
Jeff
rpenner54 04-23-2002, 09:10 AM Here is how a "real" club is formed in Colorado. :D
http://www.cohvco.org/ca4wdci/web_pgs/club.htm
Most "real" clubs also get inc(ed) when they form.
A corporation, on the other hand, is considered by law as an individual or unity having rights and liabilities distinct from those of the persons composing it. In addition, as a non profit corporation, the club can claim exemption from state and federal taxes and should apply to the Internal Revenue Service for an official exempt status. Therefore, the advantages to an organized group, such as a 4WD club, in becoming incorporated is that it affords protection for each member from a financial and legal standpoint.
A FYI... :)
dog walker 04-23-2002, 09:22 AM define 'real' club...
Thats easy,
A real club would have a logo and a name
A real club would have by-laws (not just copied from another club)
A real club would be known by others
A real club would have monthly meetings
A real club would have a calendar of events
A real club would have atleast 10 members (not including spouses and children)
A real club might/should be an associate member of United or at least their state 4 wheel drive assosiation
A real club would also have club t-shirts so they could be noticed as a group at an event
A few things that come to mind, but I don't know, I did'nt make up the rules for being a club! I just see alot of clubs pop up and they seem to just be "internet" clubs (don't ask me to define that!)
Jeff
BnTMike 04-23-2002, 10:12 AM I say 5 rigs per club and lets git it..
Mike-
randii 04-23-2002, 10:12 AM The only thing I think you should change is only allow "real clubs" in the competition. I understand that everyone wants to take part in this, but we should only allow real clubs in it.
That's freaking hysterical, Jeff -- the Pirates seem to make every effort to NOT be affiliated and be the polar opposite of the normal definition of a club, and now, when it comes to keeping other clubs out, your're gonna embrace the club model?
A real club would have by-laws (not just copied from another club)
Most bylaws are derivative from someone else's rules. Very few clubs sit down with a blank sheet of paper -- why reinvent the wheel?
A real club might/should be an associate member of United or at least their state 4 wheel drive assosiation
That would rule out the Pirates -- they are affilated with United but NOT their state organization.
All that said, the Pirates of the Rubicon are CLEARLY a club, by and definition, but it just goes to show what a slippery slope this really is.... my suggestion, since my club certainly won't be participating, and I have little stake, is that you all keep as few rules as possible, but as many as necessary. Getting caught up in rule-making almost always seems to breed upset.
Randii
Flatty 04-23-2002, 10:28 AM 5 rigs per club. Must have their names in by the end of the month to GET IT!!!! Only real clubs, not well I got a buddy who ahs a buddy and we can make a club.
Dimitri
dog walker 04-23-2002, 11:47 AM Ok whatever dude, I prety much laugh anyways, so why do you feel it's so important to justify your clubs existance? I never even said I was talking about your club!
I'm done with this stupid topic, so don't bother asking me anymore questions about it, you guys wanna compete, thats fine, see ya there.
Jeff
Brandon 04-23-2002, 12:24 PM thought you weren't goin Jeff?

Dennis 04-23-2002, 04:16 PM I vote to change the day to a weekend gig.
Big Rich 04-23-2002, 06:57 PM Here's why the 4th was chosen, beginning of a long weekend that most can get off and do to go to the con, Fordyce,etc.. The property was available, most every other weekend has been booked with other events. Good way to start the weekend off before hitting your favorite local trail. And most importantly, most people get the 4th off.
Rich
URJB, the meaning of which is clouded in secrecy, has been around for 7 years and our website (which I have not promoted here) has been around for 6. there are some old URJB T-shirts in my closet that will atest to the age.
We are not affiliated with any state or national org. but our members are CA4WDC.
This year we will be having our third annual Full Moon Run, which is held during the full moon in June on the "Con".
IMUZ ME 04-24-2002, 12:03 AM RockHog not to worry! I am pretty fucked too! I am only going to have Fri-Mon off! I don't think I can get the 4th off! No seniorty etiher! Besides, my .02 is that this used to be a small club thing all in good fun, it still sounds like it is, but it is getting waaaay waaay, outta control now! Damb, money to compete? Secret location? WTF? Well I guess all in good fun huh? See you all on the Con Fri... take pics for me! :mad3:
Diesel Junkie 04-24-2002, 12:11 AM I will still come out and play, but like what was said above, I am kind of a fan of what the CotC was. Everybody hates politics. I think Rich will do a killer job with this no matter what.... But he wants input from the competitors on what they want.
I vote for a 5 rig max and min. not too big but good representation.
I will assume we are going full competition style/rules with narrow gates and cones?? I like the idea of a "wider" , but gnarly, pick your own line kinda course. but whatever is cool..... I have never wheeled around cones before. GAWD only knows my rig anint built for cones.
Rulz ?:
1. Reg and insurance, I got neither, should I green sticker or street reg????? what is better, could probably pull both off, but my rig will never see blacktop again. Is the necessity for insurance going to be because we need to Cover our asses on the comp thing???? In comparison, do you need insurance in SCCA or NASCAR?????
2. Is a front locker gonna be required??????? I could throw one in, but I dont want to spank you guys too hard.... It would be like cheating(HEHE...J/K)
3. Is adjustable suspension allowed??
4. I dont know about 95 db but I got a 350TBI "Y"ed into a 3" 2chamber flowmastah.... and I dont wanna change it..... Plus I gotta club member that I wannna see compete in this thang, but he's gotta couple of open pipes on a BB.
How about this idea.... Is there a way we could invent a new type of competition where TEAMWORK is emphasised.... Like if a course was designed where 2-3 rigs from the same team run a section at the same time and they work together with straps and pushes or whatever to complete the section. That type of thing wouldnt be for bragging rights of who has the 1 or 2 baddest rigs... but it would be who has the coolest CLUB! More of a CLUB comp. Plus it would give this comp something TRULY UNIQUE! Rather than taking this unique/cool/club comp and evolving it into the "norm"..... why not try to make it MORE unique.
dog walker 04-24-2002, 05:12 AM NOT their state organization.
Gee thanks for letting me know that! There's a good reason for that, CA4WDA Sucks ass!!!!
And as for by-laws, yes we wrote them all about ten years ago, and I get a kick out of seeing the new start up clubs that have cut and pasted our laws to their web sites.

Great idea:D :D :D Or we can have kind of a Camel Trophy deal where the teams have different tasks to complete;)
Run dog 04-24-2002, 08:50 AM Kevin Palmer, Daren Runion, and Jesse Emerick want to be part of the (10). We will pay Rich @ Monnrocks clean up on sat. We will compete unser vthe "Team Sierra Extreme" out of Grass Valley Ca

So "PUT UP OR SHUT UP"
Rich
A captians meeting sounds in order here if possible. I think in order for this to work out some things need to be changed. All of us at MHT are cool with all of whats already been put in place execpt the whole Regestration and Insurence thing. I dont think AAA has rock insurence for our Rock Buggy nor does it have a VIN Make Model or Year.....
2,3,or 5+ rigs....its all good
Flatty 04-24-2002, 11:26 AM Rich, take this as you want. You asked for sompetitors advice on how to do this,a dn I gotta agree with chris. I liketh idea of a "team" cmop. Pit team against team, not jsut rig agaist rig. True the rifg will do most of the work, but teamwork shold be emphasized. As for insurance and all that stuff, I agree with Rich. This is a NECESSITY because this will be wheeled on private land? so the insurance is not even a question. I know we have the 3 or even the 5 members ready to go.
As far as a captains meeting, we DO need one. This will tell us what should eb done. I still STRONGLY disagree with the "new" clubs entering. Sure if the clubs have been around for a long time, then let them get it, but I do not agree with new club that just slapped some people togetehr just to compete. This si not cool. I can go out and get some ARCA competitiors to gegt a team together and spank the competition, but that defeats the whole purpose of the "club" bragging rights.
So Rich when do we get to hear your opinion on this?
Dimtri
Big Rich 04-24-2002, 02:18 PM Registration of the vehicle or green stocker is needed, insurance I will have to do some checking on. Who runs in the thing? hell I don't care have your grandmothers drive grandpas truck!!!!! As far as the team thing goes, thats why we add scores together to find a winning club. A camel trophy type of event sounds cool, but it would be a nightmare, along with dangerous, with more than 1 vehicle on the course at 1 time.
my .02 worth

Flatty 04-24-2002, 03:20 PM So Rich are we gonna have a meeting for the group captains, or the groups in General without all this info from other people. And Wehen I say clubs, I mean the original members. The Pirates, Tin Benders, SRC, and the Zombies. We can figure out what we want to do there.
Dimtiri
TEAM X-TREME 04-24-2002, 05:02 PM 95 DB. What is this going to be at A residential area or something? Hell thats at A idle.

There do seem to be alot of "clubs" springing up now that there is mention of a competition. I have to agree with part of what Flatty is saying here. It should be the original competitors + one "new" club. Let all of the "new" clubs have a seperate comp for the rights to compete with the guys that were at the original CotC. This would keep the numbers down, as well as give some of these other clubs an opportunity to be involved.
I also think competitors should be regular posters on PBB, since this whole idea started here. None of this "I wanna run and I'm sure I can get Bubba and Joe Bob out that weekend too." We don't know these other people. We can't give them shit before and after the comp!:flipoff2: :D :flipoff2:

If it's decided to exclude "New" clubs, so be it. what are y'all afraid of? we have 5+ rigs and money in hand for the cause.
So what if many of you dont know us?, maybe you'd like to.
how about some kind of "tryouts"?

Well what ever happens, thanks for everything that you've done.
I can't make that date. No worries though. Its for a good cause. I'll probably send a donation to whoever gets this thing going. Its the least I can do. I don't think there is anything more positive we can do. As long as it unites us all in our common goal. We'll send a message to everyone. If its money we need for this fight, I'll do whatever I can. If all I can do is send a hundred dollar check, than thats what I'll do. If my only carnage is to my bank account, so be it.
I will not go quietly into that good night.
