: Clocking D18..

I am considering building a set of axles for my 2A with centered diffs.. I was wondering if anyone knows of anyreason why the D18 cannot be clocked with the output shafts to the bottom.. Will the T-case be adequately lubricated in this position??

It won't oil correctly, but worse yet your driveshafts would be way too low and the front shaft would be straight under the oilpan.

I was only wondering about the oiling issues.. The Drive shafts will actually be higher than they currently are(these axles will be SOA +4 inches of lift and 36X12.50X15 TSL's).. Also My oilpan currently sits higher than the front diff so with the additional lift their should be no clearance problems with the driveshaft and oilpan..

 is this going to be a mudrunner? why are you going centered diffs? just curious i guess...................

Kinda hard to use the D18 with a centered rear diff isn't it? Maybe I just can't picture what you're trying to do.

the case will be hanging straight down, both outputs inline with the trans. dont see the advantage yet.................

beats me

what is the problem with running the driveshaft
diagonally?:emb:

i've seen many rigs like that. even mine has the two driveshaft diagonally connected.

if the driveshaft angles(up/down) are o.k., then the fact that
they are connected diagonally(left/right) is of no importance.

if that what you wanted to take care of, just do'nt.

dealing with an upright mounted t-case will be worse.

I was think that putting the outputs on the downside with centered diffs would give me better angles with the short wheelbase.. Around here it will be more of a sand runner with some mud and streetable to the river and maybe to work once in a while..

i kinda like the idea of the diffs on the same side. i would think it would be just as easy to build an offset rear, to match the offset 18 output, as it would be to center up a front end. then you would have way more ground clearance under the case. just my .02:beer:

reread this especially the part about drive shaft angles also my first responce to OLDJEEP and you will see that i will also have around 8 inches of lift..If it weren't for the D-shaft angles i wouldn't even consider the D-18 I was originally going to use a D300 that I bought from tys a couple of months ago..
