I'm very pleased to announce that Hummer (General Motors Corporation) has kicked in to help Friends of the Rubicon and the Rubicon Trail Foundation. WOWOWOW This is our first corporate donation either way. Toyota, Jeep, Ford, etc. have yet to kick in like Hummer just did. GOOD for them and thank you Hummer and GMC.
I just received a box of goodies for our next couple work weekends. In the box were dozens of pairs of good work gloves, several hooded ponchos, some skeeter spray, dozens of bottles of hand-sanitizer, and a first aid kit I can pack along on projects. It looks like several hundred bucks worth of stuff for us and our work weekends. AWESOME. And to boot, Dennis Mayer, Treasurer for the Rubicon Trail Foundation is working with their Communications Manager, Dayna Hart to receive a cash donation to the Foundation from Hummer. WOWOWOWOW.
Further more, about a half dozen Hummer folks (and their Hummers) are going to show up on Doug Barr's Tahoe Side work weekend, July 22nd, to help us do the field work. Now THAT is what I call a manufacturer stepping up to the plate to do their part to help us keep the most famous 4wheel drive trail in the world alive and well.
If you get a moment, drop Dayna a short email and thank her (it was her initiative) and Hummer and General Motors Corporation for helping out the most famous volunteer group in the world -- Friends of the Rubicon.
thanks,
Del

x2 - email address please.
Good news. I'd be surprised if Jeep and Toyota don't contribute. All 3 big auto manufacturers have used the trail for marketing/advertising, its only a matter of time.

GM never, ever, made the H1. That's an AMG product. Besides, who cares every vehicle made ends up being modded to do any serious rock crawling. Fortunatley the Rubicon isn't an extreme trail. I welcome any manufacturer willing to pony up.
in short, who cares?

I never really liked the H1. The H2 is OK for what it was designed for. The H3 would be pretty bitchen with an SAS front, Springover rear, and some more power. The point here is that there actually are some of the yuppie yahoos willing to go out and put theri $50K rigs on the 'con to help. How many others on this board have done the same, I know I haven't and feel guilty about.
That is AWESOME!!! Great news! A group of us H3'ers were planning on running the trail in July, and now HUMMER has stepped up!! See you there:smokin:

They are not....not the civilian version. Still will make the Military version. The military consumption was so great, there were no H1 for civilians in 2005. They relaunched the H1 as the "Alpha" with a Duramax and Allison trany combo....and raised the price $20,000. I think that really hurt the sales...between the lost model year, new higher price, gas and military needs...it's all conspired to end it.
I have a 2001 H1 and have been planning on selling it....I'm glad I waited, as the prices on used models has gone up. I personally love my Hummer...it's the best Snow vehicle, I've ever driven. I thought it would be an 8,000lb sled...but it had incredible control in the snow. Mileage, wasn't that awful...crusing it got 14mpg...which is the same as my Hemi truck. Finally decided to sell it because after my wife got a Lexus SUV....it just sits in the driveway. I drive it once a week on errands...just to keep it moving.
As wheeling...I never took it 4Wheeling...I didn't really buy it for that. The one thing that was fun, was taking it to Meadow Lake...hitting the dirt road, hitting the button and lowering the tire pressure while I drove...:)
I think it's great that Hummer stepped up...considering Hummer uses the Con for testing.

I think the biggest reason...especially for Jeep...is their dealer involvement with the Jamboree....at least they did last I heard. Hummer uses the Con for testing...so they fact they're willling to help shows responsibility toward an asset that they use.

Saw the Hummer folks at Walker (where we passed them going in) and again the next afternoon at Buck as they went by two days ago. They were very cool to deal with, knew they were moving slow and let other folks go every chance they got, and frankly had some pretty good spotters with them. As they went through Buck they had what appeared to be minimal damage. I thanked them in person for the donation and asked them about Dana Hart. They replied that they were the "engineering group" and that Dana would be with the "marketing group" going through next week.
They had six vehicles, all H3's with the off road package, one of them a long wheelbase experimental 4 door pickup version with a black cloth cover over it to prevent spy pics...they wouldn't talk to me about it.

When was/is this?
I know of a group going in thru Homewood next week, and one going in thru Loon next week.

Gave all the info I have, sorry. Like I said, it was their engineering group...AFAIK they entered at Loon on Wednesday, camped at or near Spider (after some difficulty getting rigs through at Walker), went to Rubicon Springs on Thursday, and out the Tahoe side on Friday.

yes, the engineering staff is on the trail last week and this upcoming week.
In fact, they are going to helps us with the Tahoe side work weekend this coming weekend after more of their test runs. They've been talking to me and Doug Barr as well. GREAT folks, I must say. I've heard nothing but good reports about them on the trail.
These guys have been on the trail many times. This year, the one comment they did make to me was that *it sure seemed tougher this year than years past.* I'd have to agree after having just spent the weekend getting spanked a few times -- power steering pump; broken off pitman arm, etc. But still fun.............
Del
Great! We will hope to see you then on Sunday. We will be heading out with our group of H3's early afternoon.
Hopefully:D
