Went to Binder Bee in Oregon.

Saw some pretty nice rigs, and BS'd with some GREAT people.

Picked up a couple parts on the way there as well, more parts for the new build!

I wheeled Fordyce....

Most folks in the group (Jeeps) had carnage...

Mine:
1 rear Shock
1 Square DS yoke ear

I also learned that my Scout rusts after deep water crossings.

3 hours after a crossing on Sat afternoon my clutch rusted to the flywheel.
Took a while to get break it loose....
Tried a tow strap on a large tree, climbing a rock and ramming a rock.
(All with the clutch in).
Ended up taking out the 6 bolts holding the pressure plate to the flywheel & turning the motor over.

It happened again today (twice) but broke free pretty quickly.

Friday-Setting up Binder Books at the Binder Bee, then helping with other Binder Bee stuff.

Satruday: Getting up WAY too early, helping with Binder Bee, helping at Binder Books, running my ass of, talking to Rusty, talking to Binder, more running, more talking to Rusty, check out IH Only Bling, more running, raffle, pack up Binder Books, shower, and BS until I couldn't keep my eyes open

Sunday: Binder Bee trail ride. Did thrash the Scout too hard, but enough to pound the last nail in the coffin on this set of springs. I think I lost 2" of wheelbase before the day was done. Overall the truck ran great. Spotted Binderbound on one of the hardest, if not the hardest trail at Browns camp. His Scout did extremely well, walked trough most of the sections without many problems. He had an open seat, so I stuck him with my brother all day. My brother who couldn't stop talking about the ride all the way home. We did have some carnage at the bottom of lower crushers. When I was leaving it sounded like a broken Detriot, so it would have been a long winch out. I am still waiting to hear if it's free or not. I had other commitments, so couldn't stick around.

All in all it was one hell of a weekend, but worth all the effort. The Binder Bee went WONDERFULLY well, I got to meet both Jeff and Mike Ismail, two really great vendors, see some friends from up north, and introduce my brother to rock crawling. I am beat, I am dead tired, I am sore and I wouldn't trade it for anything!:smokin:

sun- started to house sit for a friend, went salmon fishin caught the first one of the year!!! then tried to throw a party at the house, but nobody can make it till tonight. im on about an 1hr of sleep, cause of this girl, drove to her work at 2 am and talked for a while... things lookin good:smokin: :smokin:

Sat installed that gate, more $$$ for the project:D
Installed the rear drive shaft. I re-tubed an XJ front shaft. This give's me a cheap CV shaft for the rear. Had to pick up a conversion U-joint for it to fit the 14 bolt 1350. Drilled out the 14 bolt yoke for the U-bolt kit. Found I had drill out 1/64 larger then 3/8 to get the U-bolt to go in and out without to much trouble. Also had to grind the holes with a carbide bit to get the strap to go down far enough. Maybe next year I can get some real parts, but I need to get it drivable to figure out other issues.

Pulled the valley pan after dropping the original 73 PCV grommet into the valley pan. :shaking:

While I was at it I installed a new set of lifters I have had on the shelf for a few years, new pushrods, and swapped to boat style lifters....painted the valve covers and valley pan black. Pulled the leaking radiator....its a bitch to do by yourself with all the coolers and fans attached. Gonna hard mount those this time. Getting ready to install the alum intake once it shows up..... (Damn 4th of July holiday and shipping.)

A black 345 looks weird....but no oil leaks to see, maybe. :flipoff2:

Buy N2IHC's. You'll be wheeling by next weekend:smokin: ;)
sucks. first you had to sell yours, and now just after finishing he's got to sell his:( I guess other stuff is a lot more important.

as for my report, Sat.- nothing at all
Sun.- towed a 2k lb trailer about 250 miles with my scout to pick up dads new 345. Doesn't sound like much of a feat, but my scout has 4.10's, a gutless 196, 33x14 boggers, and a 3 speed,. Not the greatest towing setup:D Actually towed it with much less problems than I imagined:smokin: The only problem was my radiator finally decided that it didnt want to have a 30 yr old core, so it's at the shop now. It had to be done soon anyway. Pissed me off that the IH V8 rad's have larger diameter necks than the 4cyl, so I couldn't use my spare, and as you know the hoses are custom and/or non-existant.

Also decided its just about time for a cage. Jeff and Damian, I dont think so, but does either of you make a cage to fit in a half cab. D, I know you make the one for the terra, and Jeff, I can't remember if I read a post of you making one or not. I think in about a month i'll have the $$ for some goodies:smokin: If neither of you make them, I guess i'll be supporting one of my local fabbers. I dont have the time, money, tools, or skills to make it myself, but I wish I did.

On Saturday, Todd came by and we started to replace a little rust in his Scout..

http://tigger.tmcom.com/~tsm1/PlainGallery/2006YellowBurtonRustRepair/DCP_0020.sized.jpg

Found a bit more rust than expected (DUH).. here's Todd inspecting the B-pillar, which he opted to NOT do much with.

http://tigger.tmcom.com/~tsm1/PlainGallery/2006YellowBurtonRustRepair/DCP_0023.sized.jpg

The mid-mount is OK, but the area immediately under the B-pillar is pretty rusty.

The triangle gusset is OK, so the plan is to forge ahead without going any deeper - as Todd keeps asking "Where do you stop?" :)

We had to improvise, since I picked up body mounts and outer rockers from Fleck at the Bash, but no inner rockers, and the plan was to cut some 16g for the floor.

I had some 2x2x.120 square lying around, so we're going to give it a go, and put the outer rocker over the square tube for the stock look, but good strength.

That was as far as we got on Sunday.. since around lunch time my 37-week pregnant wife indicated it was 'bout time to get going.

So after another 24 hours of fun, I acquired an heir to my Scout collection. :D

I should have some additional pics from this trip that I am going to do a little write up on.

I am still sore from all the steering on these tight trails...and fighting the tires. Hydro assist will be a welcome addition.

More typing later...

I couldn't believe you brought it and entered it! I thought it was pretty awesome sitting there in the modified line up. I talked to a few people who were a bit baffeled by it, wondered why it was in the show. I told them it still had a Scout hood, grill and tail lights so we let it in. I didn't hear one negative thing about it. I even caught Ernie Bisio checking it out, but didn't have the heart to ask him what he thought of it. Really good to see ya Rick, glad you could make it down.

Yep, and he's still running his shop, even at 88. I believe he was out at our show for all three days. The funniest thing wasn't him checking out Rick's buggy, it was watching him drive the CXT around that Brattain International brought. For some reason Creed (owner of Brattain) left him the keys and Ernie felt the need to re arrange the trucks. I guess even at 88, he's still just a boy playing with big toys.

I'm glad it rolled through the gates as well. It's an IH in my book. Too bad I didn't get to look at it... Something about running around like a chicken with it's head cut off. My weekend consisted of 4 days of walking around in circles at the Binder Bee.
