Is it worth the time to install a power steering filter? I've got a used pump and cooler.
Also, where would I find one? Is it as simple as going to the local "good" auto parts store and saying "give me a PS filter"? Or is it a tractor type thing?

High pressure Filters are not cheap. The system doesn't need a filter, thats why there not common. Seems kinda :rainbow: to me.
But if you must:

Guess I am :rainbow:
I think a filter in a hydraulic system is a good idea.
I have used a remote spin-on filter base and a Wix 51452.
Plumb it into the low pressure return side.
Add a cooler after the filter if you feel the need.

So something like a remote engine oil filter would be the ticket?
Old Scout, my main concern right now is I've got a "bunch" of used parts for my steering system with the exception of the hoses. I'm not sure how much crap go into the box, pump, or cooler I have. In an effort to have a long lasting system, I would have no problems spending $20-$30 for a filter to clean a bunch of the crap out:p
FWIW, changing a PS pump on a Chevy TBI is a big pain in the ass made harder by my placement. I've got to take the radiator and such out of my Cruiser to get to the pump. Then I have to pull the pulley before I can dump the pump:(
