Ok, here's the deal. You get your choice of vehicle off the showroom floor.
You're gonna take a trip down the length of Baja. Not a tough trip but
will require a decent 4WD to get the job done. I will run three polls,
one each for Chevy, Toyota, and Jeep.
You pick whether you would pick the new or the old (15 years) vehicle
for your trip.
I personally think a lot of newer vehicles may be more reliable than
those of the past, but I don't really feel they are more durable.
Let's see what you think……
2002 Chevy K1500 truck or 1987 Chevy K15 truck ???

That was a hard decision, but If I was making any kind of long trip I would have to take the 2002.
I have both types of trucks (a 2000 Silverado 5.3 and several 73-87 k5's and k10's) and both have their advantages.
2000+ Silverado's and Sierra's: great comfort and awesome power. Great mpg, good towing. Decent traction if you upgrade tires. Terrible duribility offroad. Discusting approach and departure angles. Terrible ground clearance. But I did drive the ALCAN highway at speeds in excess of 85 mph. (could and would have gone faster but the gov. keeps that thing from going much faster.) be warned...rear drive lines can be dented by hard snow!
73-87's: decent creature comforts, but nothing like the newer trucks. Good power, but major dogs compared to the new stuff. Lousy MPG. better approach, departure, and break over angles. Overall way tougher. and way cheaper to maintain and upgrade.
my next truck will be another 73-87 chevy. I would sell my 2000 in a heart beat If I could find another sucker to take over my payments. :D

No 87 k 15's? Damn that means that the several people that I know that owned them got screwed by GMC. GMC made the 15's, Chevy's were 10's.
