Ok, here's the deal. You get your choice of vehicle off the
showroom floor.
You're gonna take a trip down the length of Baja. Not a tough trip
but will require a decent 4WD to get the job done. I will run three
polls, one each for Chevy, Toyota, and Jeep.
You pick whether you would pick the new or the old (15 years) vehicle
for your trip.
I personally think a lot of newer vehicles may be more reliable than
those of the past, but I don't really feel they are more durable.
Let's see what you think……
2002 Toyota 4WD Tacoma or 1987 4WD Toyota truck ???

i would do the '87 toy because you could pick one up for under 2k and do the sas and gears/lockers, lift and anything else and still have money left over. on the otherhand if you are getting it just to drive and not wheel i would get the 2002 because of its nice ride and handling.

He said off the showroom floor though...
I think the newer ones may be a little better stock, but if something breaks they are also a lot harder to fix...

And I would take the '85 over the '87 any day...

I said the 87 truck... mainly because the new Taco's have one of the FUGLiest grills I've ever seen:flipoff2:
But, I have a 99 Tacoma and love the drivetrain.... other than the IFS :(
No question, bone stock the Taco is way better. Get the 31's and the locker and you would tear up the 87.

I chose the '87 for the durability issue. The Taco IFS, esp. the rack & pinion steering, seems to have durability issues.
Yamaha WR426........ Oh wait that's not an option.
O.K. the 2002. (If Ivan Stewart will lend me one of his)
definately the taco. Especially if they are both stock. c-d player,e-locker:D. reliable as ever. would probably run better on mexican gas.

I say Taco. E-locker! since both have IFS, there's nothing lost there. Plus with the Taco you can get a supercharged 3.4 :D :D :D

A Jeep TJ and a trailer. Coil set-up from the factory.

A new Taco with all the options. In stock trim it would be a very good choice. Then after the trip, the IFS could be upgraded to a nice straight axle.:p
