: What makes a Cruiser inherently taller than a Heep?

Some of my friends and I were discussing this tonight. They all drive J**ps and they made the point that Cruisers are always taller looking than Jeeps. What about a Cruiser makes it taller? Or is it just an optical illusion? If it is not, do they have a higher center of gravity?
I realize that the center gravity has a lot ot do with how tall the lift is, and where the drivetrain is located. But, if the same amount of lift was used and the drivetrain was in the same place in say a CJ-7, would the Cruiser be more top heavy because of the body? Just curious.
Makes me wonder of ways that I could fix this if it is an issue.:emb:

It's the compression factor, like when a Land Cruiser rolls over the top of a Jeep it becomes permantly depressed, I mean compressed........serious

th COG isn't much higher than a Jeep. The drivetrain in a cruiser sits a few inches higher in relation to the frame, but the main reason that they are taller is the body. Measure the distance from rocker panel to top on your FJ, then measure a YJ. The FJ is like 6" taller in the upper body area...

I have not made comparative measurements, but The FJ40 looks not only taller in terms of tub height, but also wider and longer than a CJ7. Hence it will look taller. Also, when you SOA on Cruiser axles it will give you more lift than CJ D35 axles 'cos they are a bigger dia. Just my NSHO

What I know is a factory setup cruiser with factory non-lifted sagged springs and factory axles will not roll easily. (maybe >45° ?)(been there, done that. very scary but I had to cause I was towing my dad and his landie out of a remote mudhole...)

I'll vouch for the not rolling...A friend missed a spot following me, slid off a log, and his right side dropped off a small ledge. you could acutally set stuff on the driver's side and it wouldn't slide off.

Didn't tip over, though!:)

never actually checked the height, but they are longer and wider than a strangler...which is longer and wider than a cj7. that, i measured.
