View Full Version : Will IFS/IRS start to make sense for XRRA type stuff?

Now, put away the flame throwers...I know all about solid axles for crawlin'. But, as I found myself watching the XRRA event from Moab I couldn't help but see a lot of the rigs shown on camera looking really out of place as they tried to go fast over the rocks.

Now, I did not see the whole course, so maybe there is a bunch of 'slow and crawly need lots of down travel stuff' somewhere, but it sure seemed like a desert race truck prerunner style set up might have been faster. Perhaps that can be done with a solid axle...I really don't know....or perhaps a TTB type of thingy.

Just wondering if there finally will be a good reason for independant suspension in a rock racing buggy.

There was a fairly long thread about Ford TTBs in "rock racing" in Gen 4x4 here about a month ago, had some good info. I'd post a link to it, but seems fixing the search for all here is not on the priority list.

If some of the axle manufacturers would start producing 4340 shafts for TTBs, I'd bet they'd be a lot more popular.
