do i need a 2" lift to clear 31's on 15 inch rims or do i need to go bigger

and i am told if you do anymore then a 2 inch lift that you start running into problems with the angle of the driveshaft and have to get a drop spacer for transfer case and other items
is this false or will those problems occur

I think you need to be a bit more specific, like what kind of Jeep you have. ZJ, TJ, WJ?

sawzalls really suck cuttin fenders on xj's, angle grinder is far superior. if its a xj question, no lift, 31's here :flipoff2:

Might as well go all the way and get 33s if you gotta lift it. Lifting for 31s just dosnt seem worth it.

Yeah but if you are going to lift it and put 33's on it, you might as well put a long arm kit from Claytons and 35's:flipoff2: At least then it will get some respect from the PBB

Sure but he might not even need anything more then 31s. Like I'm not going to waste money and time on 33s for myself but rather a large jump over the 36-38 range sometime after I get out of college. But that comes along with other things.

You can elongate your spring shackles up to 2.5 inches without altering your steering geometry. This will permit you to successfully clear the 31s. Caution: don't go any more than this or your caster angle will change and the Jeep will be all over the road when you want it to go straight.

I used an XJ with 31's as my knock around/ camping rig for a few years- worked great and i drove it all over. I had a set of Rusty's 3" coils up front & 3" leaves in the back (you could probably use blocks in the rear if cash is tight), and did some minor trimming to the fender flares and inner fenderwells. For an XJ, you can get away with 3" & 31's without too much grief. Mine drove great and power wasn't drastically affected. Not a bad choice if you are on a budget and your rig is your DD.

From my experience, I would seriously question anyone that says they run 31's on an XJ with less than 3" of lift unless they did some serious fender hacking. Oh, and shackle lifts suck.
