: Fender trimming....

I choped the front. I just kinda felt it out, I didn't put as much thought into it as TSM1MT did. But I think it looks sweet.

It got really tough around the lower firewall area.

Another, but this time I straightened out the wheels. ;)

Seems the trimming went well ;)

Some of this clearance will be lost when I lose the blocks and go to longer shackles.

I haven't trimmed the rear yet, but by the end of this week, or next weekend those will be done too.

Hey Cliffy,
That thang is still one ugly POS!

Looks like there's lots of room underneath. Approach angle and breakover angles are great.

Thanks for the shot showing just how far those MTRs stick out w/full width.

I'm gonna do like ABBA said and stick Bushwhacker Chebby cutout flares over mine. I'm also RS so's I gotta move my front forward.

I now have a WideTrack Cherokee Chief D-44 front which I'm prolly gonna leave SUA and I have a full-width D-60 rear which may get SOA along with the Cherokee springs. Gonna take me a while - gotta get a couple new ring and pinions, new spool, new 60 axles, and disc brakes for the rear - and I just ordered a new air compressor (don't want my purty Scout lookin' like your POS.:D

Terra~ That's cool. You'll have the tires that ACTUALLY won a COMPETITION...Did he charge ya extra for those collectables ;)....

scoutver5.7~ Sounds like you've got a lot of work going on too.

I'm not going to make it to the RMIHR this year, but I'm planning a trip to HOLY CROSS around the same time probably a bit later.

Cliff,

What are you going to do for the lip on the fender, roll it, or weld on 1/8" round stock?

Are you going to add some body lift to that thing, or some AAL's? Looks like you need more lift, or room for the tires to travel up?

When you heading out to CA to wheel that thing?

Look's great. I'm planning on doing something like that in about a month. Might do what tsm did and weld a bar on the inner shelf for extra support. I also wanted to cut the rear out by making new, larger wheel wells and cutting out the outside. So keep those pics coming, I want to make sure it'll work for me!:D

I know I said I wasn't going to do this before, but I've changed my mind.

I'm gonna get some hard plastic stuff to (like lawn edging with the hollow circular end to cover the sharp edge, the get the JC WHitney special flare shiat to go over that. Get some self tapping steel screw to secure it all, and I should be golden.

That's the plan as of right now.

I'm not planning to add body lift, but not sure until I get around to replacing the bushings.

As far as wheeling in CA, I'd love to. But that won't be fore a few years at least.

I hardly modified the springs at all!

All I did was the spring over and removed on leaf from the front packs.....I'm hoping to get a bit more droop when I remove the spring clamps. But I will have to lower the bump stops I think....

I'm guessing the front tire is about 33" off the ground, not too bad ;)

here's my plan for the rear.

Cut out the wheel wells from my blazer body.

Cut out the scoutII wells

Insert blazer tubs into scout.

Trim excess floor from inside of new tub.

Cut fenders to fit the rear tires at full stuff.

I think this will be my best option.

Whaddya think guys??:nuke:

Sounds like a good plan, my plan is to remove the rear tubs and make a square shelf the length of the bed like the scout 80 and maybe put tool boxes in the extra space.

That's a pretty good idea Raker.

I think I'm gonna go with some craftsman style bedside boxes. and slide-out style bed box, for camping gear and shiat, in between those two.

Looks good Cliffhanger.

TXScout - you might be better off with some plain old angle steel instead of the square tubing. I can't remember why I opted for the square, but some angle would be just as strong for this application and half as heavy.

Cliff - are your fenders going to flap? :D

You guys keep tubbing your Scouts and you're going to make me get off my rear and get after mine yet.. I'm trying to concentrate on my racer and my tow rig, and you're distracting me! :flipoff2:

Heck, I just ordered a bunch of *stereo equipment* instead of something more useful, like a Dana 60 Detroit.. :D

BUT... I might halfway enjoy the 16 hour drive to RMIHR this year. :D

Roomy cab, all the junk in the box instead of the back seat, room to stretch out, nice seats that don't poke me in the back, CASTER... and tunes!

Looks sweet! Now you just need to get a couple cans of olive drab to through over all those other colors to get the finished out look!

Thanks, I'm gonna fill the gap so I don't have flappy fenders. ;) But I'm not sure if I'm gonna use hard plastic, rubber or weld in some steel??

I think I might PUSH the fender tubs more towards the tire. I don't as much fender inside the rig since I'm full width. This way I gain storage space as well. :D:D

PS stereo is getting up there on my list as well. I'm thinking of checking out the XM radio.

Serously though, that's more likely than Cali. Show me what ya got. Maybe I'll make it a point this year ;)

I'm not quite sure how you're going to do that?

you need to attach the inner and outer together *securely* to give them back the strength they lost (Think "monocoque")

Welding them together would be the most direct approach.. but I wanted to be able to take the fenders off again someday. :)

Aside from my "curling" and reinforcement, the only other good solutions I could come up with involved drilling holes through the side of the outer fender and running a bolt through it, with the bolt heads exposed. :-) Or rivets.. or something similar.

That doesn't exactly maintain anything resembling the factory styling. ;)

It would work though!

The plactic/rubber "edging" is a great idea to cut down on cut shirts, arms, and tires..

Or did you manage to cut the two fenders so that they're close enough you can get some edging over BOTH fenders at the same time?

I've thought of that.. if I do the FW swap at the same time as the tubbing, I can probably keep the rear seat..

PS stereo is getting up there on my list as well. I'm thinking of checking out the XM radio.

My SO was eyeballing the XM stuff at Best Buy yesterday.. until I pointed out the $9.95/month subscription fee.

She did kinda like the 6.5" LCD TVs I showed her though.. the good n' bad of it.. if I install one in the truck, passengers could be entertained on those long 65mph hauls.. OTOH, it'll be even harder to get someone ELSE to drive so I can vegetate in the backseat. :D

I didn't tell her the MP3/CD deck is on order. :D

I was making the comment more towards JDJanda. :D

Our most fun is in the winter and deep snow..

We have Divide Ride coming up the weekend after RMIHR.

Divide Ride Website (http://www.m4x4a.org/divideride/)

If you visit my website (the WWW link below) I have trip reports from various runs including Divide Ride '98.

There will be a conservation project/run on the Morrison and Benbow Jeep trails this summer. One of those (Benbow?) is just across the border in Wyoming... now I can't remember the town's name. I think it's south of Red Lodge (MT) though..

Sounds like I might be heading down for that in mid June (15th?)..

Cliffy [JD]

I thought there would be a subscription fee. :( I'm not interested anymore.

I'll just go with CD :D that's plenty for my trail rig.

Yeah, like I need yet another pay-us-by-the-month bill. ;)

I was thinking of a changer for the truck, given it's intended long-haul use..

Then noticed MP3 decks had come down in price.. and I recently replaced my DVD player with one that'll play MP3s, too.. starting to sound like I planned this...

So I went with the MP3 instead of a 6/10-disc changer.

Used to have a 10-disc Sony changer in my trail rig.. it worked pretty well for a number of years, but I finally beat it to death last year. :D

Tape deck still works - and doesn't skip.

Since it's no longer a daily driver (the crewcab might become one part-time..), the fact the radio works at all is a bonus. :D

Probably end up losing the 8" subs behind the rear seat when I finally get around to tubbing and body repair.. at the moment, w/ the tailgate not opening, it's too much work just to take them out. :D

One of these days, I'll organize a Binder Tour. We'll meet in New Mexico, swing through Arizona, then the Hammers, the Con, a trail or two in Oregon, and Finish up in Wash. You guys game? Maybe next summer, two weeks to complete the road trip and wheeling.

Oh and if you go doing a couple of trials and then heading home, if your in, your in. ;)

And Binders only, no trailers :flipoff2:

Heck, I haven't even felt "ready" enough to go spend a week in Moab playing.. and it's "close" and my GF and I both really like Moab. :)

Too much work to do to the stupid rig...

And Binders only, no trailers :flipoff2:

Fawk that!

I didn't buy the bias TSLs because they make good highway tires and wear well! :flipoff2:
My trailer tires are $50 each and last 10x as long. :D

I think the days of me driving my Scout 3500 miles in a week are behind me. At least, not in *that* Scout. ;)

I WILL be using a Binder for a tow-rig though.. and if no trailers, I guess I *could* put the good tires in the pickup box and just flat-tow it on some scrubs. :D

The Travelette is just SOOO much more comfortable. Heck, might even have the A/C installed by next summer..

You're just jealous.

Tom,

The only problem with audio in a Scout is all the BIG, EXPENSIVE amps it takes to drown out 2 1/2" Flowmaster exhaust and 36 +" Super Swampers.:D

It'd be okay for parking on a mountainside and watching the moon come up while sipping a cold one!

I didn't think my Swampers were all that loud.. until I did some custom siping on the rear fenders last run and it really howled on the drive home. :)

But.. that's why I've changed my tuneage priorities to the crewcab.

The Scout still has enough stereo to drown out the Swampers, the dual Turbos, and the flapping soft-top..
But when it's time to go any distance, I hope to have the interior of the Travelette sound-deadened and stereo equipped.. heck, I'd like to be able to hold a conversation during the drive and still be able to talk (and hear) when I get to the destination.

That's the plan, anyhow. :)

I'm told TSLs are whisper quiet when they're parked on a trailer deck. :D

-Tom <-- becoming the trailer-queen wimp he used to poke fun at
