I need to do some grinding tomorrow on the SM420 "bulge" around the tcase front flange. I have heard anywhere from 1/4" thick to 1/2" thick for the SM420 thickness. Just would like to verify. My estimate is 3/8".

That is one of my pictures that he posted. I estimated it to be between 1/4 and 3/8 inch by taking out the crian plug that is near the hump and measureing and looking at the hole form the inside.
Yes that is Pinheads picture, please don't sue me.
Well I ground away this weekend and had to take ALOT of material out, probably a little more than you did Pinhead. I will take a pic and measurement. I think it will be all right unless the joint lets go and hits the ground area :(.

I saw this happen last summer at the gatekeeper on the 'con. The joint didn't let go, but there was just enough flex in his drivetrain and suspension that the yoke caught the side of the 420 and ripped it open. :( :nuke:
