Has anyone done a 5.9L swap in a 2000 or newer tj yet? If so, I need some ideas

I'm guessing your talking about an AMC 360...

It might help if you give everyone more information. Such as what kind of transmission you have, year of jeep, current motor could be of use, etc.

I'm going to bet he's (?) talking about the 5.9L V8 Dodge/Jeep engine which, yes, is a 360 but not the AMC. And it sounds like it's going into a 2000 or newer TJ. And since it's a newbie's first post I'd bet everything behind the flywheel is negotiable.

My guess is that he's looking for fitment issues, wiring problems, etc.

And since neither you nor I have any real info.....

Paul

It can be done, I have a 5.2 in my jeep. Runs cooler than the 5.9 and has only 20hp less.

Ok here the deal. I drowned the 4.0L and I have alot of issues with it right now. I burn 3 quarts of oil every 50 miles, It has rust (from what I can see In the block). Lots of power loss. I can try to rebuild it or buy this 5.9L for $500. The motor is out of a 96 dodge ram. It has motor, auto-tranny, and ecu with it. I guess the question is, Can I use My t-case or do i need one from the ram, Or can I drop the motor in and mate it to my tranny and t-case. What about wiring, and radiator. Do I need to buy a wiring harn and get a bigger radiator? I have a d44 rear and d30 front, Can i get away with those till i have a set of 60's or 14b, or will they snap under normal driving? This is kind of my daily drive sort of. Finding the stuff to rebuild it Is hard becouse they changed shit in them in 2000. The other option is stroking it, becouse the parts that are hard for 242 to get would be easier becouse I would need the 258 rods, and bearings and crank.

I did read that forum. It wasn't very informative, but thanks anyways. He was worried about lossing his gauges, and air bags. I'm not, I will put my own in if needed. And for the air bags, Im not so worried about them.

you may get the motor for only 500.00 but are you considering the needs for many other mods to go along with your conversion? motor mounts, cooling, electrical, emissions, exhaust. it by no means is a bolt on. by the time you are done ESPECIALLY if you dont buy the motor with EVERYTHING NEEDED you will be in the upper 3k range.

buy or build a 4.6/4.7 stroker. you have the 2000 block, just buy a 91-95 head, spend about 1200.00 in all new parts and have it built. you'll get 85-90 more hp than a stock 4.0 and much more torque. its a bolt in so you wont have to worry about all the bullshit that may not pass smog.
