: frame strength on a scrambler

I am putting this here because I thinks its fairly core.

I have an 82 scrambler with a good frame. Rust in a few spots but not bad. I am putting 5.5" alcan sua springs under it with a d60 f&r. I am also adding a 1" body lift and 37" nitto mud terrains. I have all that, now I am in the process of building a 408 for it to mate with a 727 n divorced np205 thats getting 3-1 lomax gears.

My question is what are the chances on bending/twisting a stock 82 cj8 frame with what I have? this is going to be a straight rock/trail rig and the only pavement it will see in an occasional road crossing, like a water crossing just dryer. I know of a company that makes a tube frame I could use instead of what I have now.

thanks

I would just box and add extra cross members

You can plate it. I used MORE plates up front and some plates a buddy who also has a Scrambler cut for the rear.

looks good i have a 82 scrambler and broke my frame in the front where the brake lines come through but in the back i but in angled supports and channel for the rear cross section and that held up great
good luck with the build

My 83 frame didn't hold up, after 2 years of hard wheelin it twisted bad and started cracking every where.I plated quite a bit of it but still was chasing cracks. I finaly went with a tdk frame. I'm sure this one will last great quality.
