My CJ 2A is finally SOA using Wrangler springs all the way around. I was looking for a low cost traction bar and saw a guy with the J.C. Whitney traction bar setup on his SOA CJ-5. He said it works great. Anybody else have them on their Jeep? They are the kind that attach to the spring plate on top of the axle. They are only $67.99 in the catalog. It looks like you can get them in different lengths. Any help would be appreciated.

they don't work very well. the ladder bar style with the shackle at the forward end is the way to go. trust me i have tried them all.

Yeah, that's what I figured. Especially since the guy that had them on his Jeep was entered in a car show. Thanks for your help.

Hey Archie, here's yer chance! Chime in and tell as about how those traction bars are the Cat's Ass and dirt cheap.

Oh yeah, and don't forget to mention how you went thru two sets of em before you finally broke down and built a ladder bar. :flipoff2:

Hehehe. Sorry man. Couldn't resist.

Ladder bar is the way to go.

Thanks Boots :flipoff2:

This traction bar does not work in preventing spring wrap in SOA:

To counter act this, I installed another set of those bars under the axle. They bent due to forces and rocks :D

now I have a ladder bar made from John Deer Top links (aka: the Billavista design) but his site is out of bandwidth, so I can't post a link.

here is a great article on why thes single bars do not work:
