I took mine out to put my SYE in but I don't remember which bolt you are having trouble with. I know a lot of people that install their SYE's while the tcase is still in the jeep, you just have to be careful so that everything doesn't fall out. Good luck.

OK I assume your talking about the 2 nuts that hold the bracket to the t-case? Which also bolt the t-case to the trans, I have a 1 inch body lift so there is a little more room but it's hard to see with my skidplate.

I didn't, I don't remember really...been years. I'm sure someone here can probably help you out. If not, PM me tomorrow and I'll take a closer look after work.

I believe I used a shorty socket and a u-joint swivel on a long extension to get that one. Either that or it was a shorty box wrench. Can't remember. But you're going to have to figure it out. :D

It shouldn't be that difficult. There are four points at which the bracket connects to the Jeep. Two are part of the studs on the shift tower (accessible by removing the shift boot), one bolt threads into the side of the transmission, and the other uses one of the studs/nuts that mates the transfer case to the transmission. The nut is a bit of a pain to access. The first time I removed it I used a ratcheting wrench. Due to the lack of space I had very little "wrench swing" so that took a little while. The second time I approached the nut from the front near the bellhousing using a 3/8" impact with a long extension and a swivel socket. I hope this helps.

Unless weather is a factor, it's just as easy to do the SYE conversion with the case in the jeep. I've done about 10-15 of them and never pulled the case on one yet.
But, I also have some tall jackstands I put under the rear axle that let me sit up under the belly, so that may be why it's easier for me.
The two bolts that hold the shifter bracket on can be removed from the top with a ratchet wrench, but you have to yank the console and floor cover plate to do it. Or, a long set of extensions with a swivel socket from the front will do it.
