COOL Man!! I truely like the color.

Mine still sittin on stands, ready for the yokes to be welded back on. If I could just stop paying bills, then I could have this done. But the wife keeps hammering me about priorities

Pass side RC 60 with the spring pad on the pass side of the diff?
Way cool, what's it from?:D

It's from a 79 Ford..but it was just re-tubed on both sides and shifted over

Sticking with ford outers but I have custom caliper brackets to run Chevy calipers.

Rear is a duallie 14 bolt ~62.75" wide.

Gets geared on Tuesday and then I'll put the knuckles and stuff back on...

Because I don't have a press...and I don't think that I will have one bgi enough to do axle work for a while...I also drive this thing on the street so I was concerned about it being "True". I really wish I could have done this myself:( but this was a little beyond my skill level right now...if it were a GM 60 that just needed to be narrowed, well that might be a different story.

What really sux is that my 60 was up at the shop for 3 Months just for custom brake caliper brackets to put GM calipers on...And when I got them back, it turns out that I could have easily made them myself if I would have just measured them in the first place...at least the price was right...and much lower than originally quoted.

What did that cost ya? What did you provide?

Scout Dude

It cost me ...*Gulp*...$600 for the narrow part alone

I had quotes as low as ~$400 to mostly $800. I was going to go with the $400 guy because he has been doing custom axles for years...but right before I took it down to his shop, I called him one last time to discuss what I needed to bring...he then mentioned that he set caster to 2º on one side and 2.5º on the other...I told him that I had heard that you should never drop below 6º but he said that off road turning would be affected:rolleyes: ...then he told me that he was going to use 3.125 x .250 wall tubing:eek: to replace the short side...I said no thanks...WTF uses .250 tubing for anything?

Anyway, the guy that narrowed mine, Lars at KDS, was in the upper range but I have known him for a while so I talked him down..I also bought my steering arms from him. He has been doing axle work for about 8 years I think.

Basically, I supplied the entire 60...he provided the tubing and retubed both sides, not just the short side.

Welcome to the :vader: side, Tim. Seen ya at BB for years. Hey look, everybody! A Newbie with a clue!!!! :D

Welcome. (I'm Sean Shepard, BTW)

On another point...
Hey, does anybody have a source for axle tubing? I've got a couple front housings I need to chop up and move around, and I need some new tubes to do it, I can't just shorten and borrow from other scrap this time. Where should I get it?

How wonderful it is to have a retubed RC 60 sitting on your garage floor. I'm sure you pulled up you favorite lawn chair or milk crate and sat in front of it for hours gazing at it's beauty, it's structure, the strength, the magnificence of it all...

(Ahem)

Scout DOOD, I was just wondering, have you considered using GM Spindles so you can upgrade to 35spline stub axles? Actually, I'm not even sure if they're compatible.

I just pressed a SPL55-3x forged ujoint into a D70 stub shaft this evening and let me tell you, it was beautiful. It was a Kodak moment.

Actually, the only seat that I could find was a bucket..but it works fine...stared, painted it, stared some more:)
I probably could adapt gm spindles...but it's much easier to just make a 5/8" spacer and then I can run gm 35 spline outers with hubs. I can run them now as long as I used drive flanges (would probably need to cut off the extra length though)...however, my wallet is empty now:( so I will be wheeling this summer with 30 spline outers and worn out 36's instead of the 38's that I had hoped for.

ABC Supply on R street in DT Sac.

Although, no one seems to use or order 3.125 for the front 60's..I guess it's cheaper to use 3.25 and then turn it down and the ends.

Hey, thanks for the quick response! This is great, downtown sacramento is like 20 minutes from Davis, and I usually find myself over there a couple times a month. This is soooooooo sweet that I want to crap my pants (like ninja's)! Do you happen to know what the stuff costs, like per foot?

About the 3.25 --> 3.125, that makes sense, right? The 3.25 rough dimension probably isn't machined real precise, so I'd want to chuck it up and turn down that 1/16" off the radius to bring it to 3-1/8" so I could get a nice tight press fit in the housing and the knuckles.

Thanks Scout Dude, I owe you a . Are you gonna make it to Josh's this weekend?
