: TT vs. RRO
thedick4x4 07-16-2006, 07:30 PM ive been reading this board for quite sometime now and no one has anything good to say about RRO. what im wondering is what is so bad about their kits especially the jpeater kit. personaly i like the way its set up. ive heard that it doesnt fit perfectly like they advertise. enough rambling. what i want to know is if anyone has this kit with pictures, cause i really want to do a yj swap but i dont like TT setup with double shackles. go ahead and flame me if you want, but i would like some real world pros and cons of both kits.
thanks in advance

Not going to flame and I have no experience with either of thier kits, I had a set of 8 to 1 gears on order from RRO for about 8 months. Every other week I heard they should be in about a week or two. After getting tired of waiting I called TT and the 6.5s were at my door in 4 days. Just my experience. Also did a 1.6 16 valve swap on a Zuke that was bought as a package deal from an individual. We could not get it running. Brent walked us through another vendors wiring and helped us figure out what we were doing wrong. From that point foreward any parts that I need TT will get my first call. If they offer it I will buy from they hands down. Brent is awesome to deal with. JJ
RocKrawler 07-16-2006, 09:56 PM Personal experience with the TT kit was excellent - it fit right, installed easily and worked perfect - in addition to that the service was fast and pleasant, and arrived complete and accurate. I couldnt order from RRO because they never had anything in stock, and once when they said they did they actually didnt, and I dont like being straight lied to, or blown off because I want to do a bit of research before placing an order, so I flat gave up on even calling & decided to simplify my life and order from a trusted and proven vendor with TT. You will read close to the same experience from dozens of other members too.
Chevzuki 07-16-2006, 10:22 PM Ive never had any of the problems with RRO that everyone seems to have.Always got my stuff quick, everything fit fine, and they were always friendly.
I do know that much of the stuff they sell isnt their own. There isnt anything illegal about that, far as I know.If they can get stuff out to the masses for a good price and sell other companies goods legally, more power to them.
Ive run the JP Eater kit for a couple years now.It fit up great and rides really smooth with 1" YJ lift springs I got from Dent and Scratch for super cheap. No failures or issues with the kit so far.....

Snakeman 07-16-2006, 10:28 PM I talked w/ Brent on the phone numerous times. Never felt rushed or like I was a pain. Always had answers to my questions (I'm sure he had heard them MANY times before).
Was in town (Medford, Or) on business and wanted to buy a Mighty Kong (figured I'd save on shipping). They had two they were taking w/ them to a show/comp, Brent had Linda call the powdercoater and make sure he could get another before they left then gave me one of the ones already packaged to go w/ them.
I will buy from TT again for sure.
M.Martian 07-16-2006, 11:02 PM I've bought many things from Brent and Linda over at TT. They have always been great to deal with.
While others have had problems with Glenn at RRO, I have had good luck with them also. I wasn't buying gears or a suspension kit so I can't say how something like that would go though.
When I was researching companies to use for my Samurai project, I kept reading horrible things about RRO (mostly on Pirate), which sucked because I had planned on ordering a ton of parts from them. My plans changed however and I ended up ordering 90% of my parts from TrailTough and couldn't be happier. There service is top notch and like mentioned above, Brent is super nice over the phone.
With that being said, I did order my power steering setup from RRO (I wanted a Toy setup) and though I was leary, it arrived quick and complete. I would order from them again. My only complaint is that the guy I delt with didn't seem very knlowedgable on their products.
Okiyota 07-17-2006, 06:24 AM I have RRO's JP Eater kit, however i cant give you any opinions on how it works because i have never put it on. It looks to be nice, made from some beefy looking parts. It is for sale in the classifieds section, complete, never used. PM me if you are interested, i could probably have it shipped to you faster that RRO according to everyones experiences!!! Only reason i am selling it is to go to a coil setup instead.
john1974 07-17-2006, 09:40 AM RRO products are pretty good, its there customer service and service that sux. I have had 4 bad experiences with them, and will no longer buy from RRO.
catzuk 07-17-2006, 10:59 AM I will add to the growing list of people who had great dealings with Trail Tough. I have also had great support and products from others as well. Petroworks and Gary over there have been Very helpful on more than one occation. And Eddie and Tom with Spidertrax have been just awsome to talk with and their products have been top notch as well.
I have ordered products and had phone conversations with RRO in the past, with great sucess, But I have dealt with Glen Wakefield then. Does he Work/own them anymore? He was always concerned with customer service and product quality, thats what put him up there with being a great company so fast. Has anyone ever dealt with him lately or tried to convey the message that his help is less than helpful? I haven't has any bad experiences of late, so I have no need to call. Does Glen even work on Zuks anymore? Never hear anything about him these days.
Seems like vendors need to read these forums more often. A lot of their business is here. I always see Blue torch fab works and polyperformance and others in the general 4x4 keeping up with the public and dealing with their complaints to make their business better. You would think that since Zuks are still small in the vendor world they would do everything to make sure their business are giving the best support.
TruckTrader 07-17-2006, 01:08 PM I've ordered parts from just about every vendor out there through the years and have run just about every possible combination. I can tell you that Trail Tough is always my first choice for parts - period. However, I have purchased and installed the Rocky Roads JP Eater kit on my LWB a couple of years ago and found that it was well made and the fit and finish was good too (although in retrospect I didn't like the amount of bolts that hold that thing together, multiple points of failure). The service was fine on that particular occassion and the product arrived in a reasonable timeframe. I've also had other experiences with Rocky Roads where they were out of stock on items and it took them longer to ship than expected. No horror stories by any means, just slightly longer shipping times than what I expected.
With that said, I think you should also consider Sky Mfg YJ kit http://www.sky-manufacturing.com/. It's less money that both of the others but doesn't come with u-bolts and is not painted or powder coated. The reason I tried it was that I didn't want missing links in front like the Trail Tough kit, but also didn't want to go with the JP Eater kit either for reasons noted above. This kit allows you to run with or without missing links in front. Take a look at it, the kit is about $380 for front and rear. By the time you pay for u bolts it's close to the cost of the Trail Tough kit. A decent alternative if you don't want front missing links but I still feel that for quality and service you can't beat Trail Tough.
thedick4x4 07-17-2006, 06:51 PM thanks for the replies guys. but i think im going to say f it and build my own. just to save some $ and have fun doing it. with that said, how far forward is the front axle moved forward and how far rearward for the rear?
