NOT a daily driver, just want to drive to the trail and be legal (only state req's)

I'm getting a no on all collectors companies for no garage, and a roll cage...

any suggestions?

When they ask if it has a lift kit I say no, if something does happen (and it has for me) the guy that comes out to check it out doesn't care..

You could get collector insurance too..

Talk to your regular agent and ask them if they would do an agreed value policy, if not ask them if they could recommend a company that does.

AAA does not do agreed value, but they have always been good. Besides, if they did - it would most likely cost more..

You should be able to go to any insurance agent and get the minimum (base legal) insurance with no problem. Just tell them you have a 19?? scout that you want insured as a part time driver. Mine cost 21.00 a month. Your answers should be my scout is stock. The base insurance only pays for the damage you cause. Usually the only time they want pictures and stuff is if you are fully covered. I drove up to the agents office in my scout and it has 38's and 12 lift.

Wow, if a Scout is an ATV, I might have to try to take it to the trail in the bed of my Truck next time I go instead of trailering or driving it.

I insure my 76' as a secondary vehicle through State Farm, I've got liability and no deductible comprehensive and all the extra roadside/rental crap for about 12 a month. I don't bother with collision on it. When it's a little closer to being complete and I have more money in it, I'll probably go with an agreed value policy. I just keep the comp on there for cracked windshields and such.

I go through Farmers insurance and insure it as a "Classic".

26$ for 6 months.:D

All of my IHs are premanently registered ($100-$130 each, and I'm DONE).

$20-$30 a month for insurance. Liability only. That's on the 1T Travelette hauler, my wife's 68 V8 800, my lifted '73 DD, my battered '77 trail rig, and at the moment even the door-less/windshield-less/top-less race Scout (it has wipers & headlights (neither works), rearview mirror, brake lights.. I'm good to go).

Nothing sophisticated about the process. I just call 'em up and tell 'em I bought another Scout and need it insured. I actually have two policies.. there's only slots for 4 rigs on their paperwork. :)

Thanks guys-
Here's what I found:
continually no collectors possibilities... they want garaged, restored, pictures, no roll cage etc - so I guess this would only work if I sent in pictures of it before I abused it... and hope they don't ask to see it in person

Option #1
as a 3rd car on our current policy (state farm) - absolute basic for WA state law, less than 7500 miles per year, $41 / month

Option #2
same as above, but sign a waiver to get out of otherwise state required medical and uninsured (liability only), $23 / month

Agent says my son will be covered if we are out camping on non-county road and hit an elk = worst case scenario he is hurt on the trail...(yeah that's the same, right?)... this for the $41/mo. so I am leaning this way, until I trailer it.

I"m assuming that you classicly insured guys actually have nice rigs... i would hate to run over grandma on the way to the store only to find the classic insurance rep tell me that I am not covered after the fact because I am now modified...

Again - thanks to all for the input

what I do is when I won't be driving it for a while I just call and have my rig removed from my policy - and when I want to drive it I just add it back - cheaper that way :)

Thats what I do to. (State Farm as well)

I have full policies for all my rigs, but when I'm not using them (or they are engineless in the back field) I roll them down to "comp only". Basicaly covers vandalisum, tree's falling on them ect.

If I need/want to use or drive them (typical over a weekend) I just call my agent and let them know. Alot of times she just fills out the "reinstatment" paper work and leaves it on her desk for the weekend, then if I call her back monday she just wads it up and tosses it in the trash.

Helps that I have a really good working relationship with my agent.

The comp only is only like $14/year and it keeps the truck on record.

They have never asked to see the truck(s)... she knows what I do with them, we both just play dumb :D

I'm in a bind over here. There are only 2 companies that will insure us in Sicily (highest rates in the world).
Geico and USAA.
I use USAA and fought for a month over value of scout.
They would never give a true definition of how they figure value in case of total loss.
But I was told to list everything, take pics and get an appraisal. No guarantee but this will at least let the adjuster know what I had.

I got an appraisal for 10K from a LL dealer and obviously documented my entire build up in pics.

My insurance for the scout and our ford escort is $275 a month. Full coverage.
At the end of 3 yrs here that equals $9,900 in insurance payments....
HMMMM

I say it's BS but it's the only way to protect us and my investment in the scout.

My wife and I combined insurance to farmers when we were married 20 years ago and still have it. Scout was $23. a month liability and the new Rubicon is $38. a month full coverage. They also have our home and life insurance the entire time.

Only one claim when I was rear ended and out of work for ten years three back surgeries.

I have just liablity, as for getting a value for a total loss (aka stolen) maybe getting Lo-Jack would be better money spent. My time for doing all the work so far would be like a billion dollars by now:eek:

My agent offers a company called Hagerty. I belive thats the name. He said its collector insurance, but they dont do odometer readings or any of those things. They only want to see that you own another vehical that is your daily driver. My quote was for my scout 80 at value of 12k:laughing: with a zero dollar deduc and only being 24yrs old it will run me $215 a year! He said it fulfills the state min liability so thats what I will do. Just a thought

Might be cheap insurance, but have fun collecting Hagerty Ins link (http://www.hagerty.com/Auto/vehicle_qualify.aspx#excluded) as off road vehicles don't qualify.

You plow into the bastard in front of you ( has to be a basterd you just ran into them ) because they slammed on there brakes for no reason and your 3 ton Scout could not stop as fast as the 1 ton civic. Your at fault because your were following to close. Now the ins man show's up and seeing you rig covered in mud, they denied coverage based on a false application. :barf: as they don't cover any vehicles used for "camping, off-road or utility-type driving".

I could be wrong here and your Scout looks good enough to enter a parade or show.

I told them I drive it less than 3,000 mile per year and it $10 per month for 150,00/300,000 liability. It's also comes with 3,500 in un-insured motorist too.

I'm fawked if it gets stolen. Which might be the only reason to have this collector insurance:D

I definantly have more questions/research before I take that step, this I knew. My agent could also be leaving out important info to get another client if thats the case then i will handle that. is it possible to get double insurance ie: use your standard in the case of a assending, but using your collectors in the case of theft? I have never had an old vehical befor that was worth "full coverage". Glad I saw this thread.
