OK I saved the money from my gig last night(Totally off the hook BTW) and I now want to purchase a hydro assist kit. I will tap my own steering box so I just need a kit that comes with what I need. Price is an issue as I'm aslo saving for a front locker. Any ideas. I'd search but I'm on dialup and it is soooooo sloooow. Gotta get satelite or something. Love the country side just hate the internet here.
There is Redneck RAM (http://westtexasoffroad.homestead.com/index.html)
And then there is PSC (http://www.pscmotorsports.com/product_info.php?products_id=432)
On the JustIH board there an article on getting more out of you PS pump.
click here. (http://www.justih.org/Binder-Bench/showthread.php?t=2785&page=1)
Then there is the Surplus Center (http://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?UID=2006071711234123&item=9-5999&catname=hydraulic) and another link (http://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?UID=2006071711234123&item=9-6795&catname=hydraulic)
Post up as you go, as I too need to find parts and ideas. I made those links above so you can get there faster with dialup:D

Where did you get that price from??
Its $250 in R290's link. Is that a price you can sell it [to us] at?? If so, not bad.

Call and tell them you're on Pirate. Will probably get a better price than advertised on their website. I think it was $250 advertised when I bought mine but got it for $200 by mentioning Pirate when I called. Don't know if that was a limited time "sale" or not.....

I called about a redneck ram. The rep said I could send in my box, and a pump, and they would fully rebuild and port the box and retune the pump for free (pump). The total price for that kit including everything (including ram, lines, ect) is about 500 bucks. Has anybody had good or bad luck with them. I am going to order a kit as well. Just havent decided from who yet.

DJ, I remembered seeing this post on the BB, and figured i'd find the link for you. I don't know if he's still got it or not, but it may be worth a try. Keep in mind I have no idea if that is a good price, I know very little about hydro assist, and have never priced it out before ;)

I like the looks of the rockstomper kit but the rocklogic looks great as well. I'll probably go rocklogic because they are close and I can deal with them if I have any problems. Got a ton of parts coming. Ordered my parts to build my new Tie rod and relocate it behind the axle and I'll be ordering the RL kit as well for my steering. I'm looking at lockers for the front 60 and I'm not sure how it will turn with a detroit up front. Pretty snowy here in the winter and I want to be able to steer it. I'll have the hydro assist so it should help but may push pretty bad. If I go selectable I'll probably go E locker. Anyone with experience with a Detroit up front?

For steering, a detroit is no bueno up front. If you have someone who is GOOD at installing ARB's then go that way. If its installed right, there should be a 0% failure rate.

I have A Detroit in my front Dana 70.I put it in about 3 weeks ago and have done one rock crawling trip already. It made A difference in the steering(negative).I had to back up and reposition A few times I wouldnt have had to before.Thats the only time ive driven it with the locker locked in.The extra traction did feel pretty good though! The way I look at it is, I would rather reposition than not be able to move at all because I dont have power to enough wheels. After the trip,I reread the manual and found that when experiencing understeer, your supposed to back off of the throttle.I will try that next time.

IIRC the elocker is a limited slip when not engaged. For road use in snow I would rather have the option of an open or locked diff in the front rather than a LS and locked. Id go ARB

OK........gotta pimp my forsale stuff.......I have a box, lines, ram and a stop already for sale in the forsale area. Mine is from a CJ7, so I don't know if it swaps directly to a IH. But check it out if your interested.
You can do all the work yourself on the box for next to nothing and purchase the ram and lines from Northern Tool for $80-$100. Then you would know how to rebuild a steering box and be ableto brag about doing it all yourself. It isn't that hard. Just belly up and do it!!!

Detroit's "E-Locker" (Electratrac?) is a gear driven limited slip/full locked
Eaton's "E-Locker" is an open/locked unit, and a better design IMO (plus no external parts)

I use RockStompers, they are $220 and include the lines. Used it on Rusty, and a ton of other customers without any problems.
