: 14b FF with 1/2t d-shaft
RezoD 07-17-2006, 06:52 PM I blew the 10 bolt in my Tahoe about a month back, and just got around to putting the 14b FF in it today. I went to hook up the d-shaft, and got a couple of problems... One is that the U-joint that connects to the pinion yoke has clips on it it looks like, and those are in the way of the U-Joint seating in the pinion yoke. If I just replace the U-Joint with a joint out of the 3/4 ton truck the axle came in, will this fix it? Any way to tell if the joint will fit before I buy it? Also, I need to get my driveshaft lengthened (I moved the rear axle back an inch with new perches), and I know that it'll vary from state-to-state, city-to-city, but can you guys give me an estimate on how much it might cost me to get it done? I'd really hate to have to drop 100 bucks just to get it lengthened, I was trying to do this on the cheap..
Oh, another question, would it be in my best interest to just take the driveshaft yoke from the 3/4 ton truck and bring the driveshaft and the yoke to the shop when I get it lengthened, and run the U-Joint I know would fit?
Sorry if I confused anyone..

Just because you moved the axle back 1" doesnt mean that the DS will have to be leghtend(SP?). What you need to do is put the Ds on there. I am assuming it is a slip yoke at the T-case? If so put it where you want it to be. THen measure from the center of the u-joint at the t-case to the center or there u-joint cap at the axle. And that is how long the DS needs to be. Then take the DS and bring it to a local shop and have them make it that long and put a new yoke on there with the correct u-joint size as the 14BFF. Also if you remove the yoke from the 14BFF you will need a new crush sleeve and also need to check the pattern on the gears before you run. So just find out what u-joint the stock 14BFF is and tell them you need that same yoke on the DS. When I put my 14BFF in my '01 dodge ram 1500 I purchased a 1410 yoke for the axle from Jesse at high angle driveline and the local DS shop put a yoke on the DS and installed a u-joint for $100.

do as i did, i went to the local parts store and they pulled a u-joint that fits my 1/2ton d-shaft and the 14bFF, paid like $25 for it but it fits like a charm, and if the d-shaft has to be machined, i know the local guy around here does it for $80 and installs the new u-joint for you
RezoD 07-20-2006, 07:21 PM 3/4 ton 4x4 Chevy's/GMC's use 14bFF's, as do the 1 tons.
What I ended up doing is SEARCHED!:flipoff2: And I found a 1310/1350 series combo U-Joint. I picked it up from NAPA, part # 240 0447 $32 I think. Kinda spendy, but it worked AWESOME, and fixed my problem! I drilled some new holes an inch back (to move the axle forward) and that fixed my driveshaft problem too.
There ya go guys.. I guess if I had searched this could have all been avoided, sorry.

14bff came in all 3/4ts till the late 80's.

are u sure its ff or is it sf?
trkklr77 07-21-2006, 12:40 PM its a ff because sf didnt even exsist till the mid 80's
ff are a hell of a lot more common than sf.
NetBSD 07-21-2006, 07:03 PM looks like a full floater to me, and its stamped 76 on the pinion

1982 is the magic year. In 1982 the 14 bolt SF was introduced and ALL 3/4 tons that were not 2wd models with big blocks had 14 bolt semi floaters.
The Neapco part number for a u-joint that will convert Saginaw S44 (internal clip driveshaft, most new chevys use this) to Spicer 1350 is 2-1153.
cuc-v 07-23-2006, 02:33 PM the reason i had asked was because there was no date mentioned on the 3/4 ton truck from which he aquired the 14b from!
