I've got my eye on a 1984 Dodge 4WD short bed "prospector" pick up. It's got a 318 and auto. I don't know too much about Mopar products. The price is OK and seems to be in nice shape except for tranny leak. Could anyone tell me if this is a decent rig or not? It'll be my daily driver ( about 60 mi. a day)
Thanks

It's not a bad truck I had one similar that had nearly 200,000 miles on it before I sold it. If you're going to be doing any towing you'd be much better of to find a truck with a 360 though.

I'm an IH guy and owned a Dodge Dart daily driver w/318 auto for over 5 years. The only major issue I had was when the timing chain gear stripped. It was made out of nylon. The replacements are made out of steel.
It took me a week to figure it out because I forgot that the 318 had a timing chain while IH uses timing gears.

Nylon gears…whoever thought of that should be shot. I'm not sure if Dodge was still doing that in 84 or not but it was a pretty stupid design. Although, they do seem to last around 100 k miles so I guess it's not that bad. I'm guessing they did it to keep the noise down.

if it runs and drives fine, it should be a good truck for commuting and haulin stuff around.
