What is the best powersteering that can be adapted into a jeep cj 5 i have the v8 304 i can get the stock pump bracket and im not scared to make somehting but would a box and pump out of an f-350 or other large truck be a better pump to turn the big tires i have manual steering so anything is an upgrade. but i dont want to put in a stock system if something better is out their. thanks. going to hydro assist is a possibility in the future.

most pumps put out about 1000psi under a load, so unless you go to a kit with a higher pressure pump, no real change. lrm

Run a Wagoneer or Cherokee box. It's an easy upgrade if you can operate a welder and a holesaw and aren't halfway retarded. Just make sure you reinforce the frame (as in don't drill a hole through both sides without sleeving it). I would also add more mass to it if you haven't already because ripping a box off the frame on the trail is no fun.
I doubt an F-350 box would be an easy fit on a CJ5. As for the pump, there are quite a few tech write-ups floating around out there regarding boosting Saginaw pump pressure and the like.

Check into a Dakota/ Durango box; plenty of stuff on JU about this swap and it seems to work well. You will need to fab new mounts, but the stock ones suck anyway.

Do your self a favor and drill and tap the box before installing it. Get a seal rebuild kit so it wont leak. Just use some 1/4in NPT plugs till you add the hydro assist.

A CJ5 with a 304 is going to have Saginaw steering on it already. No need for any fabrication to install a Waggie or Cherokee box. Unbolt old box, bolt on new. The bell coupler used on CJ manual boxes is the same size as what's needed to run the FSJ power box. The input on the FSJ power box just has to have a nipple at the end of it cut off so the bell coupler will fit.
