Pretty sure he ended in second, Ken Shupe(spelling?) won. I'm not sure, but I think Foothills4x4 style buggies cleaned up the top 5. We left before the awards, just got back about a hour ago. Good event, great obstacles.

A 4runner tumbled end for end 4½ times down the hill in the Durham pic. The driver walked away.

For the record we zero'd that obstacle :D and didn't endo either (like the whoops picture)

I didn't realize it at the time but at the top Buddy asked me to get a strap off the rear and I said "No, you're just going to have to drive" We had a good laugh about that later on.

BigDude you should have gotten the best spotter award! I mean that, you busted your ass all day. Did any of you see the unimog roll? that was some crazy shit! Yeah Shupe cleaned up, he can drive, and I really like those new BFG's:D Durham did really good considering he hasn't drove his old rig in over a year! The guys from Kentucky did really well too. The rig I loved the most was Bryan Hamilton's, that FJ-tube buggy was sick! I got to watch him come up LIL' CUSS, now that was a nice obstacle. What did you guys think about the hybrid with the 2.5 tons? those guys where bitchin at the judges all day! bunch of pussies. That rig could be fawkin awesome with a better suspension and a better driver/spotter combo. I was sorry to hear about BAJG I only got to see him get stuck on #4. Well I had a great time and cann't wait for the next one!

I wish they had a best spotter award:D, thanks

I said before, watch out for Bryan Hamilton's FJ tube Buggy, it works and that motor is one powerful beast for such a little rig. i think with a little more active spotter, and a little more time to get used to his rig, he'll be near the top every time. I noticed that the guy spotting him sometimes just let him drive right into things w/o even telling him. He had a perfect run going on #4 like us (we 0'd it :D) and right before the exit his spotter let him drive by and then Bryan ran his diff into a rock. he got a stop and two reverses to get out. That's 3 points total and if he didn't get those he would've got 2nd not 3rd.

That 2.5 ton was a monster. I just called it bulldozer all day. My opinion is if you're running rockwells w/ boggers, run 44" boggers, not 39.5s. He was a little wide but could crawl about anything he wanted due to the length. Some vehicles work well in one situation and not in others. However the benefit must out weigh the cost. In my opinion it isn't worth it to be that big, yeah you can climb everything, but you hit every gate doing it and can't turn to boot.

That was a fun obstacle. I can't say enough about how impressed we were with the difficulty.

We got past that second part no problem;) It's just that after we say that rockwell thingy endo before us, Buddy got a little nervous. It takes a lot of work to get 120" WB and 2.5 ton rockwells into an endo

700 miles an 11 hrs later I got home at 3:00am

I just really love this sh!t. I've got to get out of here to take it more seriously. I might be going to Utah with Shupe as his spotter in May, he asked me this weekend:D

Buddy (our driver) taught me a lot of what I know so I think I was just jacked up to finally be able to tell him a thing or two (even if it only was which way to steer :) )

I just got my pictures back. I have 2 good ones of the Unimog roll. Ill have access to a scanner tommorrow morning and get them up. I got a bloody aftermath shot too. None of my pictures seem to do anything justice. Nothing like beinbg there I guess.

I think Kevin (bigdude) should have gotten the best spotter award too. Ya'll worked well together, even in the carnage on Lil Cuss.

Cudos all around.

What more did you want the supension to do under the rockwell hybrid? The whole damn suspension cost less than one coil over shock! As far as bitchin' at the judges, do you have any idea why? Probably not! It is also easier to drive when your standing on a rock, where was your rig? see ya in june

Bigdude, you deserve best spotter award. You worked your ass off! I would be honored to have you as my spotter any day.

I have some pics of the Unimog roll, too.

The S10 w/Rockweels had 2 transmissions for an overall crawl ratio of 517:1!!!!!!!!!! Where the Mog rolled, he walked up at an idle doing about .0000001mph. He didn't even spin a tire. The driver needed a better spotter but was being a little bitch to the judges. He needs some 44" tires. What I couldn't believe is that his buddy has an identicale Samurai with a 116" wheelbase and 44" Swampers!

I had a fucking blast while I was at JROCC. I plan on trying to be at every single event this summer snapping digipics. I tok over 200 this time. The highlights will be on www.alloffroad.com next month and all of them will be on my web site tonight, hopefully. If not, keep checking back. They'll be there soon.

Chill out man, your rig needs work period, I saw you lose the right rear coil twice in a row, you hit way too many cones, backed to much, and YES you guys were bitchin the whole time. I can give 2 shits less if you got cut boggers and know one else should either but don't bitch to the judges because they want to change the start orders! what the hell should you care anyway! I mean you cakewalked most of the shit that wasn't technical. Do some more work to that beast like get some cutting brakes and a twin stick for the 205, that will end a lot of your problems right there! I think you should have kept the leave springs in the rear too! As for my rig well it's in the garage tore apart, but hopefully I will have it back together by the end of the summer. I can understand this was probably your first comp. but I was just giving you my thoughts over what I saw. I think you have one hell of a machine and with a little work you guys can be serious competition. I'm a TN boy and I'd like to see a local win one of these.

ok, your right. rough day at work, I was venting in the wrong direction. Story on the rear springs, they were new, like a dumbass I hadn't re-adjusted the cables. I know we were griping too much, but at one point we hit two cones at the same time. One on the left and one on the right. I know I was WIDE, but ..... It was our first comp, we are going to twin stick it and add the brakes. I still probably won't do much better, but its all a learning experience right? I shouldn't have welded the front, it won't turn in a forty acre field. After the 3rd obstacle, where big dude team zeroed, I kind of gave up on missing the cones. I hope we get our shit together and maybe have a little bit more luck next time. Truck is a little to long and a lot to wide, but I am comfortable with it that way. I guess we'll see.

I'm not sure what application the are for. I looked in the spring catalog at the parts store. I picked the ones with the tallest free height I could find, that matched the spring rate I wanted. The rears are 160 lbs/in, the fronts are 355 lbs/in. They were like $75 a set with a lifetime guarantee.

Just clarifying something. We had this issue come up before the event ever occurred. We conferred with UROC, and the minimum width for a gate is 112"... our most narrow gate on the course measured 113". You can't imagine the trouble we went through placing gates... took Darrell and I both the entire day to place gates on 12 obstacles.

To clarify another issue... the starting position rotation on day 2 had absolutely nothing to do with any vehicle and tire size. It was a unanimous decision by those of us running the event to make it fair for those that had to tackle obstacles first on Saturday, to be able to watch rigs hit them first on Sunday. We will continue to swap the running order in future events.

Congrats to all of you on this board that ran the event... you made mole holes out of the mountains that we felt we created. Don't worry, the course will be a little touger in June. :nuke:

Bawahahahaha:D

Didn't help though when the sh!t broke:(

I thought I did a good job getting the obstacle ready for 1 good attempt. On Buddy's first shot at it he got the front tires over and I thought he'd go. Unfortunately the jolt of the initial climb caused his foot to slip off the throttle (you can really tell when watching the video) and he lost the climb from there. Then we broke and were fawked.

For the next comp we're adding a strap to the gas pedal, kind of like a bicycle foot strap, to keep that from happening. We also replaced the 7/16" control arm bolts with 9/16" so I don't think we'll be breaking any more of those. I almost had a heart attack stacking rocks on that obstacle so it was heartbreaking to not get up it and break. Oh well, Buddy is a great driver and he's been watching the tape non-stop. He's already analyzing his driving style and figuring out where he was too tentative, etc.

Keep up the great work and feed that mut of yours. He looks like he's about to waste away!!

Bawahahaha again. That dog got to sit in the Tahoe with the AC running the rest of the day:) What a big baby, but how about the hottie watching him;)

I hope all you guys will catch me at the next event and holler. I think it's awesome to meet people from this BB, everyone is just plain cool, it says a lot for our hobby.
