I just need to know if a 4.0 I6 from a 94 yj will be a direct swap into my 93 zj 4.0 I6. If not, what would I need to make it work?

Yep. There might be some subtle differences as far as emmisions and wireing between the two vehicles, but completely do-able.

All 4.0's that I know of should be able to be exchanged just fine mechanically speaking - as long as you have the proper motor mounts and flexplate / flywheel for your application. The only issue you'll have is electrical. When I bolted my 89 block in my 96 zj (stroker) I had to mount the coil on the coolant reservoir because there were no bolt holes available on the block. I know this works <99.

As long as it is fine mechanically thats all I need to know. I dont need any fancy vic electrical bullshit. If it moves the car then its fine. So it will bolt right up to my tranny? Or will I need an adapter?

92 - 95 the motors are all the same ... now if your swapping an Auto engine to a Manual application ya gonna have different sensors on the motor you'll have to change also Flywheel ... but if your doing a auto to auop swap or manual to manual swap your fine nothing needs to be changed ....

91-95 is the same, 96-98 the same and 99+ the same. only differences could be the OBDI and OBDII electrical/computer systems. as far as the long block, you can have anything from 91-98. head you can have anything from 91-98 and you can mix and match them as you'd like. 91-95 is the better head as it flows better. casting number is 7120. block you'd want a 96-98 as it has more ribbing in the block and a crank girdle. casting number is 53020569 for the 96-98 block.

simple things to remember. dont put older units in your rig. you need same yr or newer. the 4.0 has nearly a decade of interchangability. you will be a DIRECT replacement bolt in. dont sweat it! AND if you are OBDII, get yourself a 99+ intake manifold for it. it'll increase your ponies substancially.
