: Hummer Rim/ Widest tire size possible
The Fleckster 04-21-2002, 08:50 PM Okay i have rear most of the posts on the stuff via a search and been informed.
I want to know if you guys think i can put the 39.5-18.5-16.5 Boggers on the Hummer rims. They are a max of about 8.25" from all I know. I see that Wolf has widened his for the 44-19.5 boggers, but wondered if 5" was way to much bulge out to deal with on a Trail only rig with stock width rims? I know people are sticking 15.5s on the rims and doing fine.
The second thing is if I widened it to say about 13-14", then made a new aluminum beadlock similar to the original without the runflat, would there be a market for selling them later after some mass production CNC tool up. I mean I cant be the only guy wanting to widen the rim for the wider tires. Shouldnt be too hard to do. Thats the only thing i can think of problem wise to widening the hummer rims. Thoughts.....

The spacer is the big problem. If you can overcome that you are good to go. I thought about using pvc, aluminum and other stuff. But with the bevel and all it's a little more difficult to come up with an economical resourse.
15-42-16.5s look OK on the stock 8.75 rims.
I've been wanting to widen my wheels and the internal beadlock, I'd also like to hear opinions on your on your frist question, I'm thinking of the same tires.

widening rim? just add another rubber spacer
Daniel, do you have a good supply of rubber spacers?
The rubber beadlocks are hard to come by.(civilian)
The rubber runflats (military) are somewhat easier to find and they come with the tire-like spacer.
The spacer is what folks need w/o the huge $ rubber runflat.
:)

I was talkin to a military mechanic... He said it's necessary to get the wheel inserts (Rubber or magnesium) to make it truely a beadlock to pin the tire bead to the rim.. what truth is there to that... and if that is wrong, why not run the hummer beadlock with out the insert?

jeeper111 04-22-2002, 12:36 AM You definetely have to have the hummer runflats to have it act like a beadlock:flipoff2: :rasta:
The Fleckster 04-22-2002, 01:16 AM Okay, problem apears to be solved. Runn 3 spacers with a wheel width of like 11.75 (stock is 8.25 + 3.5" )
I had thought that the insert was like 7 inches wide. Thought I saw your pic with a tape measure in a prior post, (wasn't Lance gonna add that to the tech FAQ section or something)./ So a stock width rim only takes one of these rubber "spacers" I thought the spacer was the "rubber runflatt/beadlock" Is there two different styles of rubber inserts?
So the cool thing is the rubber runflatt inserts are cheaper right? If i remember right the mag ones sell for $50 each and the Rubber ones are like $20 each. Whats the low down here?

That's what I was thinking, I'm just double checking!

The Fleckster 04-22-2002, 12:07 PM Yea i know. I am talking general figures here on average from anyone in the country, not you and you alone Danial:D
So my original question how wide is the max tire with the stock rims. I saw that the guy from Canada is running the 44-19.5-16.5 boggers on STOCK rims. Is this crazy or is it okay?
MattS 04-22-2002, 12:25 PM I'm putting 44X18.5X16.5 TSL's on them as soon as they get here. About 2 weeks away. There is so much sidewall on a 44's that I can pull the bead in past 7 inches easily with my hands.

Westtexasgearheadz 08-02-2011, 04:50 PM I would love to know the max width as well I just bought some 49-21-16.5 on 17 in wide wheels..... They make that tire crazy wide 21 is already crazy wide. Wanting to through a narrower rim on them to fix this
WHITE RHINO 08-02-2011, 05:38 PM i runn 44" pitbulls on stock width h1's with trailworthy fab pvc inserts

You bought a 21" wide tire and are bitching about width ... .. .:shaking:
Corey Young 08-02-2011, 09:45 PM This rig runs stock width H1s and 49" IROKS. It works but at low pressure the tire folds over.
MNtal 08-03-2011, 09:56 AM Corey What rig is that ?
jrod66 08-03-2011, 10:13 AM I run stock hummer wheels and 44" boggers, no problems, at really low pressure the tire WILL fold over, but thats at like 2lbs or less :D
and for what its worth, I dont think a spacer will be the fix to your problem, just buy wider wheels and be done with it, alot less problems on the trail!
Westtexasgearheadz 08-03-2011, 08:36 PM You bought a 21" wide tire and are bitching about width ... .. .:shaking:
Yeah when a 21 wide tire turns into 25 -26 in just because of the wide ass wheels. Think i will buy some h1's and give it a go....
spidr 08-03-2011, 08:53 PM You're going to have to run higher pressures with the narrower rim, or else it will roll over on itself badly.

Yeah I'm thinking atleast 10 but i will probably start higher and work my way down
spidr 08-03-2011, 09:05 PM Personally, after running that exact combo, I'd want a 12" rim at least. I've got 42s on Stock hummers now, and they sit exactly how I like, and are a 14.5" wider tire. The 49s where balloons, and I find I more prefer the squarer tread anymore

I totally agree i am not use to the balloon style tires.. But I own them now lol. In all honesty I will prob run what I have on it now which are 18 or so wide non bead lock.. and see how it goes. The problem I have is how wide the rig is over all wm to wm is 79 wheels are 6in off set from the inside to the mounting flange. That leaves me in the ball park of 105 ish overall width... With those wheels I can't flip the hubs because the tire will be rubbing the cast tierod on the outer knuckle... So to change my width i am going to have to change my wheels and flip the hub to get the width I want . I just dont think it's going to fit up any trails as wide as it is now
Corey Young 08-03-2011, 11:02 PM Corey What rig is that ?
Was a 4runner.
