I've done a search for other forums specifically on just Mitsubishi Monteros, but I haven't found anything. My main question is this: is the running gear as tough as say Isuzu or Toyota?

Also, any websites like these about Monteros? I'm planning on buying another vehicle and I was thinking about a Trooper, but I've been looking at Monteros and like the fit of the vehicle better, I just can't find much information about it.

DO IT!! I think a montero build would be cool. Matbe swap a toy front with longs into it? D44? As for the running gear is IFS, dont know how beefy it is. I do know that Mitsu made a e-lockr for the rear diff. They are prolly not common in the states though.

I owned a 90 monte and I liked it quite a bit. Dont expect much (okay, any) support from the aftermarket, but they are a fun rig. The 3.0 liter engine was a little better than the 3.5, but they are both known to be in the "pretty good" category for reliability. Mine lasted 230k before needing an engine rebuild. There is a montero club out there run by a guy who is a total Mitsubishi fiend, his name is Lloyd and he is everywhere for Montes. Monteros are extremely heavy, so they are built fairly heavily, but I have no idea how they would do with big tires etc. If you want to build something, it will be easier with a Toyota, but the monty is worth its weight in originality.
