Okay, now I could be way off on this... Here is my question... you leave the rear shackle as is... and on the front, of the leaf, add the 3/4th style set up... and maybe on the outside of the frame, add a link fer each frame rail, then a track bar... Like I said, I could be way off, and it may, may not work, but thought I'd throw it out there

Bad idea:
1. You would now need a long travel rear driveline.
2. One potential problem with 3/4 eliptical setusp is that they can walk out when pinned against an object. In the typical configuration, this occurrs while trying to back over an obstacle, with your propsed configuration, it could happen going up something.
3. I think that general handling characteristics would just suck, too much play in the system with nothing being securely fixed to the frame.

By the time you do all the work, and add control arms and a traction arm, as you suggested, it would be easier and better to go 1/4 ellip. or coil-over.
