: rod bearing replacement

Can i replace the rod bearings without taking the engine out.

some tell me yes some no.

I have done it before on other cars. I don't see why you couldn't but it is way easkier if you take it out. You need to weight the time it takes to pull the engine to the problems of working upside down. I just pulled one rod bearing at a time and replaced it then moved on. If your going to be keeping this jeep then I would pull the engine and do it right.

Thats simple, if you can get the oil pan off where the motor sits, yes. If you can`t get the pan off, no.

If the rod bearings are shot The crank is probably shot!!

You will already have the transmission/transfer case and bellhousing off also if you are changing the crank so you might as well pull the motor instead. If you didn't spin a bearing then maybe the crank isn't so bad, just put some new bearings in if that's the case. The bearings wear out a long time before the crank does.
