Had to rebuild my 96 Tracker engine!
Im now putting it back in and everything was going well until this one snag!
Theres 3 wires coming down from the battery area harness, 1 goes to the starter, 1 to the alternator and a third that I believe is a ground.
The problem is , I'm 90% sure I have the 2 right but the 3rd doest seem to line up with anything for connecting.
Any help would be great
Thanks , Sno

well, if those 3 are coming off the positive terminal one of them is DEFINATELY not a ground. you'll short the thing good like that. with the 2 connected, does it start? run? You could always go to a junkyard and see where those go. I could look at my diagrams and see.

Maybe the last one is the power supply for the wiring harness? Is it a big white one?

All 3 are black, acording to my wiring diagrams there is a ground near the starter. Im 90% sure I have the starter and Alt. wires correct. The Alt wire has a smaller hole in the conector and the starter wire lays as close as you can get to the connection post. The closest bolt to the 3rd one seems to be the starter mounting bolt, which would be a good grounding mount.
Any one else have any thoughts? Im starting this old beast by 3 pm Eastern time!!
Help!!
Thanks , Sno

Test if the unknown wire is connected to battery minus or + with ohmmeter, if minus ground it. If + , you probably did something wrong with the alt & starter wiring......

Could it be for the coolant sensor?
