: looked at a used trailer for sale....hahaha

Ya ever wonder how some people have the gall to ask for high

prices?? I noticed a very-old/used trailer with a for sale sign on

it yesterday... it was sorta set-up like a bobcat trailer. deck about
6' by 12' had ramps, surge/hydro brakes, etc. looked very home-
built. I happen to know the owner sells those big poly-tanks in
santa clara.....

So I call expecting them to want around 800-1000.... It's worth
maybe 500........(did I mention it had those awefull mobile home
axles with those horrible donut-rims (california--specials) that
no tire shoip will ever touch??

So, the lady answered the phone... "Aw, Ma'am I'm calling about
the trailer that is for sale...." can you give me some details??

seller: " I know it's rated for 10,000, and it's $1,800........"

about a 30-second dead-air blank........... me: Uh, those tires
aren't rated for 10,000 pounds, but I'll take your word on it for
the price.... thank you... have a nice day.. (laughing)............

sheesh.......... for 1,800....... I could buy a pretty nice NEW bobcat
trailer..... or, for around 1,500 I could make my own sheit..
But I don't have any time.... oh well......

Ok you guys spill on where are those good trailer prices. I've looked around here and they seem to think they are gold lined or something. It wouldn't be the first time I went over the hill to get a good buy on a trailer.

Nobody up here makes their trailers. So it like buying from the middle man. When it comes time this summer to buy my trailer, I priced out a standard double axle trailer with ramps and brakes at a place over on HWY 50 for $1500. Not bad. I have the guys card at home. I will e-mail you the info tonight. :D

Hey Sherpa, I hear you man. I stopped and asked about a trailer over the weekend. Same situation, worth maybe $600 to $800 at most and the guy says "well I am asking $2000 for it, but I am willing to deal...."

Like I mentioned before.... I can build anything....... and 99%
my work is waaaaaaaaaaaay better than anything I could ever
find commercially....... Infact, I have started on a 16' tandem
flatbed with steel deck, and full hydro-dump capabilities..... But
it's not finished, I want to now change the axles I started to
design-it around, and just more work is needed.....

I just thought I'd call about the one I saw yesterday....

I mean, what a pile it was.......... damn, 1,800..... hahaha..

that guy will have that thing around FOREVER at that price...

(dude has LOTS of crap on his prop.... trucks, vans, junk, misc
more junk, etc)............... I'm surprized the city hasn't paid him
a visit for his "collection".......................

Brother, I feel your pain !

Not trailer, but buddy has "1 ton 4x4 running gear" listed in paper.

So I call. It's an 80 Chevy 1 ton. I ask about the "axles" and we have to do the verbal sparring thing for 10 minutes because if you say "axle" here they think you mean "axle shaft" and the toothless banjo player can't believe I actually want just the 'axles" and when I finally stifle the self loathing enough to actually refer to them as "rear ends" (yes- even the front axle - you have to call it the "front rear end") I find out the clown wants
$3000 for the pair, and I am considering killing myslef as just punishment for having waisted that 15 minutes of my life.

And the funny thing is, he told me it was a d70 rear, wheras my buddy Chad had just called and asked

"what rear end is in that (he knew better than to say 'axle'!), a 14 bolt?" and buddy says "ughhh..yea - 14 bolt, that's it"

This poor unfortunate fellow no doubt also has the characteristically small facial features of the inbred!

And you never want to talk about "gears"...unless you can stomach some cave dwelling einstein refering to the carrier as "the pod"....

Arggggh!

(Christ....look at that...I went on a rant!)

Billavista............ you hhit that one right on!

I went to a local truck parts supplier today.... This is friction supply
house.. (clutch and brake/truck stuff)

I bring in only a wheel stud.... I need a longer one..... but it has to
have the "knurles" longer as well.....

the guy that asks me if he can helpe me is always the guy who
can only find shit if it's in the book....... I walk up and tell him,

first of all, you ain't gonna find this in a book. I have an original
here only for reference. I need one the same diameter, but longer..... Then I ask, how about you just show me where you
guys keep this stuff, and we won't waste each others time
looking thru manuals, and asking questions about applications
that I cannot answer............ big quiet time..............

he grabs the bolt, and brings back 3 boxes..... wow... one of
them had what I wanted... although the diameter is too small,
I can make it work.... my personal miracle for the day!

--Sherpa

Frog,, just for you, you cannot sneak into HH........ although the
SRC does have a few insiders who "assist" at the event yearly.
