RockRover 04-23-2002, 02:50 PM Got this off the WMS site...Sucks, but you can get the general idea...
RockRover 04-23-2002, 02:57 PM O'yea...I plan on using a double ended ram too...I want it behind the axle...And I'm running a 3 link front...I "think" with the Avalanche high-steer arms reversed I'll have enough clearance for the links to go OVER the ram/shaft and still keep the body of the ram near the pinion yoke (on the body of the housing, plated and gusted of course!)...I just don't want my links to have to be 10"+ off the top of the axle tube to clear the ram...If so in front it goes...

Station 04-23-2002, 03:03 PM I should have pics coming this week. A double ended ram I ordered is supposed to be coming in tommorrow(it's coming Doug. Real soon). I will borrow a digital camera from work and be sure to have pics up this week.
When/if anybody orders a double ended ram from me, I can do any end treatment that they want. If you have heims already that you would like to use, and want to save some money, that is OK. If you want just about any normal size heim, female heims(threaded on outside of rams shaft) OK, Male heims(inside of rams shaft tapped)OK.
Pics coming soon.

Uhhhhh....The rams aren't THAT nice!

gunracer1 04-23-2002, 03:24 PM i got a double ended ram from the side shift off a toyota fork lift. it has 8" travel. the bad is that it is just blunt on both ends. i am fixing to take it apart and thread each end for female heims. should be easy enough. the real bad is that the new ones are not rebuildable. just the older ones. check out the front of a fork lift with side shift, they all look pretty much the same. mine is a 2" bore with a 3/4 shaft. i would have liked to get a 1" shaft version but this one showed up. mike
SHERPA 04-23-2002, 03:32 PM Me, personally, I don't think a 3/4" hydro shaft is going to last
more than getting it out of the driveway. not with 39"+ tires.....
keep a close eye on it....
I'm trying to find/locate/copy/buy/source 2 cylinders. need to
be approx 2.5"--3" bore, double-ended. I need one for the
front, and one for the rear. front application will be for hydro-
assist duties, while the rear will be full-hydro.
--Thanks again all........ keep THOSE pics coming!

Station 04-26-2002, 08:49 PM OK here are the pics that I promised of the hydraulic rams that I am getting. They are 2.25"bore, 8" stroke, 1.5" shaft. It has O-ring fittings which are much better sealing than pipe fitting type. The rams are completely serviceable, and use all standard size seals. The ram weighs 20 pounds for those interested in that.
I can sell the ram in several different stages , depending on what you are able, or want, to do yourself.
The pics show the ram as I get it. As many who have done research have found, there is currently no widely produced balanced(double ended) cylinder that meets our needs specifically.
Sorry about the pics really sucking. :( I borrowed the camera from work, and am pretty sure that I am not using the cameras abilitys to the full. If you have any tips for me to take better pictures, and them still be a reasonable file size for the average net surfer, I would really appreciate it as I know very little about cameras or photography.
OK here they are.

I am still trying to figure out pricing for the ammount of time that I must spend modifying each ram.
For now, I figure that I can sell the ram as pictured for $200.
Or I can sell the ram ready for your use fitted with 3/4"x3/4" or 5/8"x3/4" male heim joints on the ends for $300.
For price on anything in between, you are going to have to contact me off of the board.
And since only rams were asked about in this thread, you will have to contact me off of the board (or search for previous posts of mine) regarding the rest of the parts needed for hydraulic steering.

willymutt 04-27-2002, 08:42 AM Station,
Can you turn the mounts so that the fittings wouldn't have to be so close to the axle mount. I know from working with farm equipment that the location of your ports is a big deal. Just wondering.
Erin
Station 04-27-2002, 10:19 AM They look more pointed to the mounts than they really are in the pics. The mounting bracket for the ram to be mounted to would only need to be notched about 1/8" deep where the lines would go.
I really like the way that the ports are pointed now, because with the right swivel fittings matched to the space requirement, this layout affords more clearance around the ram in nearly every situation(engine, X-members, diffirential if mounted behind and under high pinion, suspension links etc...). I also like the fact that the fittings can be pointed directly away frm danger, by tucking them up close to them mounts.
For now, the rams stay as they are, becasue they are a unit that is already produced. That is why they have the rod ends they do now, and why I have to modify them. I am working with 2 hydraulic cylinder manufacturers right now to build rams in several different configurations, so that I will have something that works for everybody. If there is enough interest in rams with the ports straight up, I will start having some built that way.
Thanks for the interest.
Sean
