Need to be done by May 24th when we leave for Tennessee. But I'd like to be done by May 17th so I can go on a shorter trip to give it a shake down before the big one.

I need to do brakes and steering and finish up little stuff.

Hey John,
I'll put my avalanche corner guards back on to make the rear look nice and im gonna bedline the tub.

Looks way too nice to take to Tellico...are you sure you don't have time to strap an S-10 body on that or maybe an early 80's Camaro body?

Seriously, way too fine....nice, nice work. I'm sure you worked hard for what you have. Congrats!:smokin:

Hey CJ,

What did the overall total width (outside of tyre to outside of tyre) measurment end up being??

You got your 42s mounted on 10in wide rims, right??

And the inside edge of the rim is almost touching the steering arm, right??

Im actually picking up a rockwell steering axle today (the importer has only got one at the moment and is complete except the entire third member has been pulled, will have some more in 2 months) to have a bit of a play. Think I got a real good way to get wheel brakes on them using the stock width axle and stock hubs with Land rover disks by mounting the disk backwards onto the inside edge of the hub. The ID of the rover disc is only about 3/16in bigger than the OD of the hub so it should slide over with a bit of maching (off both the diameter of the hub and also the inside edge of the hub to give room to mount the disc flange) The rover disc and caliper is small enough so that a 15in wheel can slide right over them. I should still be able to get the inside edge of the rim on the steering arm. So I will run with the hubs flipped out and have about a 8.5in backspacing on the rims to get the overall width to something reasonable.

But anyway once I get the axle in front of me I will have more of an idea.

Looks like you'll be drop'n some serious tire pressure to get that thing out of the garage:D

Would that thing be classified as the "Rubicon edition"?? Just kidding. Awesome ride. Question, how does that bender work if it's on casters, we have had to bolt ours to the ground. Just wondering. Can't wait to see action pics

The most commonly asked question is whether it will fit out of the garage. YES! The top of the windshield frame is about 81" and the opening for the door is 82-83". That is with 10psi in the tires.

Rover,
Sounds cool! I ended up being 88" from outside of tire to outside of tire, definately not too wide at all IMHO. I was afraid I was gonna be a lot wider than that but it worked great. The 15x10" wheels with 4" bs worked awesome too. The tire is rotating so close to the kingpin axis it doesn't swing through an arc like most setups do. I can actually grab a tire and turn it by hand with the weight of the truck on the axle.

Stonyford,
It is a hydraulic bender so it just pushes against itself.

Very nice. Is the rear 'steerable' or is the suspention geometry steering the rear in the second pic?

Depends on if a good deal on axles off a 4wd tractor come around :flipoff2: Actually I think this one is a keeper.

Almost got all the parts to do the brakes, hopefully that will go smoothly.

you are being really nasty guys:(

CJ deserves better than that - he's got one hell of a rig.

remember that a lot of the fun is in the building process.

is it possible that you are simply JEALOUS?:D :D :D

frog,

thanks for sticking up for me. I've caught a lot of shit because I haven't really had it out much with the coilovers and big ass tires.

I built it with a stock frame last wheeling season and had to make too many compromises because of it...I wasn't really happy with a lot of little things and I NEEDED a full real rollcage along with a strong motor. I was away at school from August to December but now goto a school close to home. So I was faced with January to May either spending my time fixing a whole lot of little things or just re-doing it all. I'm glad I decided what I did, I'm super happy with the way it has turned out.

I can't believe I'm posting this as a "before shot" :P

Daniel,

I'm gonna set it up with pinion brakes for now but I'm gonna start looking at brakes at the wheels. That works with the hubs flipped out right? If it works with the hubs in I'm sold!

Daniel, that means it would have to be too wide for competition yes? why can't ya run rotors and calipers that will fit inside a 15" wheel, so we can get it a little narrower. On your setup with 10" wheels and 42's you'd be looking at around 94" tire-edge to tire-edge. Keep us informed...

looks good man, especially with the rear axle moved back so far. how far back from stock did you move it if you remember. i moved my yj rear axle back about 3 inches but wish i went more like 6. did you move the front foward, whats the wheelbase now. and yes we are all jealous of how much money you spend and have, but you should be used to that.

CJ Lagos
04-23-2002, 06:58 PM
Wheelbase is 108", my front is forward and the rear is back, I dont know by how much though.

I haven't spent that much compared to a lot of guys on here. I think you all would be surprised, the only big ticket items were the shocks, tranny and atlas...everything else has been fairly inexpensive. For instance, $1500 in a motor and $1600 in axles(that includes detroits). Add that up and subtract all the TJ parts I sold off of it and you'd be surprised :P It's the little stuff that gets ya! Oh and the 5 months it has taken me to do it.

Cj I like the ride a lot. Super Nice , I to enjoy working on my stuff as well I hear the same shit all the time about whens the next buildup cause I constantly spin wrenches on my ride too. Also by the way the local dumbasses that say that shit about never wheeling it are the very shitbirds that ask me to help them with there rides too.:D
