I got a 1985 dodge ramcharger that was overheating and i fixed that problem a couple months ago and thought i was rid of it but recently in Cali the heat is in the triple digits everyday so i ran the AC and that made me overheat again. i didnt notice the overheating until the car died, what do i do? Dont use the AC or is there something i can do to fix it?

Get your radiator checked. The rads on these trucks aren't the most free flowing or efficient and the slightest amount of clogging or corrosion can cause issues in extreme heat. Get it flushed and checked or replaced with the largest radiator you can find for your make and model. The best I have found so far is one for a 78 model truck with a 440. Depending on manufacturer, it will be either a 4 core or larger 3 core. It may require a few holes drilled to mount in a later truck but the hoses match up and it fits well. Might have to rig up a fan shroud though, or you could just swap radiator brackets and have everything bolt up. There can be other issues such as a stuck thermostat or bad head gasket, but the rad is the most common I have seen.

I would start with making sure the fins aren't plugged with dirt, leaves, etc. Wash the radiator from the fan side out and make sure the condenser is clean too. If you didn't notice it getting hot until it died, you may be in for more than just a radiator.

What did you do to "fix" the problem?

A 1985 ramcharger was the first truck I ever had..

A 1985 727 was my first auto trans rebuild..
My first cam, carb, intake and dual exhaust install..
First stuck, first locker and gear intall. First er um... never mind...

Anyway.... Pressure check the system.. Get a antifreeze hydrometer and check your boil over protection. Buy a new higher pressure radiator cap. Make sure the water pump is actually moving water. Check for leaking hoses and loose clamps..

Look at the radiator inside and out for damage externally, corrosion in and out and for clogged fins..

Check your fan clutch. Is it working correctly? I have killed them when wheeling because they dont like water and mud hitting the fan....

IMHO get the big block radiator from the earlier trucks.. They went a little small on the radiator from the factory.

If you wheel enough get some serious CFM of electric fans, chuck the engine driven one and wire in a overide switch for fording and deep mud...
