I would love to have a set of roadster(half) doors on my 96 dakota. I just dunno how to handle the hinges so I can just lift the doors off and on like a wrangler. I wouldnt mind bolting them on, but dont wanna have to take the fenders off to do so. Has it been done or is it possible?

My doors are pinned using a ford hinge pin repair kit. I took the factory hinges and drilled them for the pin and bronze bushings that came in the kit and used a two pin connector for the speakers. It is a Help kit I think the number is 38395. Here is a link.

Not sure if it would help you any, but you may want to check out how fiberglass/carbon fiber doors are held onto drag cars. They basically have 2 dowel pins that are permanent to the chassis(you could make yours a bolt on version), and then the door has 2 "circles", which are formed by a short piece of tubing turned vertical, and the 2 pieces of tubing sit onto the dowel pins, and the door pivots on them. The rear of the door is held in place by a factroy style striker.
Heres a picture of a friend of mines pro stock cavalier. If you look just in front of the door opening, you will see a vertical piece of tubing with the two dowels welded to it. You could make the same setup, but make it boltable, so you could remove it.

Hope it helps!

Sweet idea. I will be adding this to my "details" section to my 1/2door plans. Killer idea. :smokin:
The wires are already on a plug though, so why even mess with that?
