I have a mobile home axle on a 4 x 8 landscape trailer I dont need brakes on it, but I want to get rid of the california style wheels. I was looking into converting to a conventional 5 or 6 lug bolt pattern. Has anyone ever done this? If so what size idler hub did you use and where can I get a pair for a good price?

My buddy just converted to to 8 lug to match the the wheels on the jeep. Hubs and seals were picked up at the local hardware store for around $150.

I would rather go with a 5 or 6 lug pattern because I already have those wheels. Do u know the size of the bearing inside diameters?

they only make 6 and 8 lug that use the bigger bearings like a MH axle uses..

Or if you find a really old, bastard MH axle, like I have, it will have 5x5.5 wheels on it..

Billavista used to have that info listed.

Aren't mobile home axles hard to find parts for, such as break parts?

Hubs, drums, etc. are easy to find. the spindle is a standard size.

brake parts - those can be hard to find, but it depends highly on the parts they had at the time when they built the axle.

brake parts are easy, just buy a 12x2 dexter unit, and bolt it on(if your lucky) or, redrill the old braket for the 5 bolt pattern.
