Is the CAD housing on a '98 1-ton cast iron? I broke a stud off in the CAD housing and someone mentioned that I could heat up the stud and that it will melt long before the cast iron housing. Is this a good idea?

horrible idea!!! considering the stud is likly steel (melting temp. aprx. 2500*F) and if the housing is cast iron ,i dunno if it is or not, cast iron melts at aprx. 2700*F thats about 200* of diffrence and at the high temp the housing will encounter you will change the grain stucture (can rember the name of this point) thus changing the properties of the cast iron, with out proper annealing the cats iron will become hard and brittle, so i would just get a good bolt extractor or some sharps drills and do it the hard way which is least likely to damage your housing
