Does anyone have a part number for this socket. The stores near me only seem to carry ones with six square nubs on them. This fits into my rear nut but slips right off. My nut has 6 half moon shaped indents around it. Normally you can loosen these with a screw driver/hammer but mine won't budge. Yes I did pry up the tabs on the washer. Any ideas where I can get this?
Thanks...

I tried carquest and Advance Auto. Will check napa...there is on in the next town I think. Any idea on the part number to make it easier on them if they don't have it in stock?

That sounds like a personal problem! :flipoff2:
Sorry, I couldn't resist.. ;)
I just removed one on a C&C housing. Had a hard time trying to get it loose using the screwdriver/hammermethod. Found one small piece of the lock washer was grabbing the edge enough to hold it.
Here is a link to the Snap-on socket that you need: LINK (http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item.asp?P65=&tool=all&item_ID=10763&group_ID=1337&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog)
Or maybe try someone local(or Ebay) for a different brand that ma be cheaper..
***EDIT***
Link to cheap socket on Ebay: LINK (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Dana-60-70-Spindle-Axle-NUT-SOCKET-TOOL-F350-GM-4WD_W0QQitemZ260012655400QQihZ016QQcategoryZ33731Q QrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
Also Auto Zone has them in Great Neck brand.. Part # 27046 for $15...

The one on ebay is the same one I got from Advance Auto($14) that wouldn't work. The nubs on it are square instead of rounded and it slips out. It even says for both that one and the snap on that they are for front axels.

HHmm..
Well Great Neck offers 3 different spindle nut sockets:

One is listed above, another is a 4 lug.. and the last one doesn't have a picture...
**EDIT**
Check around where the spindle and nut meet. Did someone insert a key way to help hold the nut from moving??

I have tried to find one of these for my 14 bolt as well. I pull the snap ring thingy off, the keyway out, and my spindle nuts came right off. I still haven't found the 6-prong socket that has circles, everyone keeps saying it's the same tool as the Dana 60.

Hmmm...i don't think I have a snap ring on mine...or something in the keyway. I will look at it again.

From what I have found the older 14 bolts used a lock (star) washer. The newer ones (my '87) uses a key and "snap" ring to retain the position of the nut. Mine back right out with a screwdriver and a few light taps from a hammer.

The flat-pronged socket works just fine on my 1/2 moon wheel nuts....
Is 87 the first year for the snap ring?

1 i have never seen a 14b that had to remove a snap ring from a spindle to get the nut off
2 sometime they have a peice of key in the spindle key way groove
3 YES the regular 6 point square socket will work, you just have to push on the back to help hold it in and quit being a pussy
4 if you want to avoid this next time you can swap on d60 front locking nuts that will be 4 square prongs or you can get the 6 square prongs for a 14b.

On newer 14 bolts. Mine is from a 95, had to remove a snap ring thingy(it's not really a snap ring but almost) to pull the key out of the keyway and loosen the nut.

I got it off. I just kept hitting it with the screw driver and hammer. It must have been on there realy tight because it didn't budge until I hit the screw driver so many times that it shrunk about 2 inches and the metal part came out of the end of the handle. As soon as I had a direct hit on the metal it loosened right up.
