I would think, to remove the tub from my 5, you'd just crank on the bolts with an impact and they'd come out. NOOOOOO!!! The just spin in the freakin mount! Damnit!

Any tricks? I'm about ready to get the holesaw out and cut holes in the floorboard.

Grind or torch the bolt heads off and hole saw through the body to pull out the rest. Make some new nut-plates out of 1"x2"x.25" stock. That way they will not spin in the channel. That's what we had to do on my old '79 CJ-5. Works pretty good.

yea, thats a pretty common Jeep hassle...just do the above.

I'm in the same boat. I just started the YJ tub swap project today. I've broken more bolts, gouged more knuckles and swore more in the last 6 hours than I have all week (well, almost).
I'm swapping on a new tub with all new hardware, so I've just been hacking off all the one that don't agree with me, and leaving it be. If you're using the same tub, make new nut plates. In the long run, it will save you time and headaches. Good luck.

You think the '5 is bad...jezz I had a LOT less hassle with my '5 than my Wagon....
Both my '5 & wagon are currently off the chassis so it's fresh in my mind .... basically I used the angle grinder and cut stright up the centre of the bolt/nut, didn't touch the mounts at all and reall easy to then tap the nut halfs off.

Remember to put Never-seize on the bolts when you put the new ones in, that way this will never happen again.

You need a BFH and a long pry bar.
If any thing is going to cause the rust to give it is going to be Blaster. I know NAPA sells it in the midwest. It helped me remove some bolts form my '76 CJ-5 that lived in Ohio all its life.
