WELL worth the money.
It will allow you to spend as much or as little on drill bits as you like. You can get years of abuse out of a HF bit if you keep it sharp.

Lets just say, if it were more money for one, I would gladly pay it
It doesn't sharpen the bits as well as they can be sharpened by hand (it's limited on bit angles etc). But it's fast and I never had to teach my wife how to hand sharpen bits, so it was worth the money.

True...but if you score an old "better built" bench grinder, it will likely have the angles 118 an 135? scored/formed into the guard. Buy that type of bench grinder and a Drill Dr. and you're drill bit sharpening tasks will be set for life.

I have one of the mid-grade ones...the DD350or 450... I got it on clearance at Lowe's for about $50...they were making room for the new DD Xp. Works very well, much better than a shelf full of dull bits.

I bought one of those things when they first started showing up probably close to 10 years ago, this think never worked for me....
I started an apprenticeship soon after that and the first thing we did was learn to use a file, taps and dies, and learn to sharpen drill bits by hand. You'd bring a new drill bit to class, the instructor would grind the lip off it and you had to sharpen it and prove that it cuts.
I can honestly say that I don't think I bought a drill bit above 1/8" for the last 6-8 years. I've got some bits that are sharpened right down to the shank ... ie there's hardly any flute remaining. I've got a specially sharpened drill bit that matches the bevel in wood screws so that I can drill a bevel into metal brackets that will be attached to wood ...
Honestly hand sharpening is best ... it's faster than drill doctor and all you need is a bench grinder. Plus if you get good you can do all sorts of fancy stuff like change the lip angle to suit materials, make wood drill bits and even cut split points from twist drills that didn't originally come with split points. I do this on any 3/8" or larger drill bits so I don't have to drill a smaller guide hole.
My biggest regret is returning to work and showing off that I know how to sharpen drill bits. Then ended up sharpening drill bits for everyone in the shop for the rest of my apprenticeship.

I have the 750 model. I love it.once you use it a few times, it is very quick to set up and use.
It can also add a split point to any bit.

The Drill Doc. is absolutly the best money I`ve EVER spent on a tool, PERIOD! If they were twice the price they`d still be worth it. I have the model that does up to 3/4" bits and it works great, EVERYTIME.

i've got the 750 and its sweet. once i get 'in the groove' i can sharpen nearly any bit in under a minute, including setup. i've put split points on all kinds of sizes of bit as well.

How good is the 300?? One of the local tool stores has it on for 70 CDN on sale right now. I figure good enough to try it out and see if I like it then get the big one down the road. Only got a couple bits over 1/2" anyways.

I have the 750 and love it. once I got a good set of bits I haven't had to buy a bit that I already had in the last 5 or 6 years.
