kellymoe 07-30-2006, 04:08 PM Peel and Seal? Peel and Stick? I bought 99 sq ft. of Peel and Seel that looks exactly like that stuff. $89 at the local hardware store.

Cheater. Mine was cheaper than that though. :flipoff2:
Did you line the door panels too? I'm doing both the outer skin and the inner panel. We'll see how it does...

I did the door skins but not the panels. I lined the footwells and bulkhead. Lined the transmission tunnel with two layers. I then lined the roof which has no headliner, that made a huge difference in both heat and noise. I still have at least 1/3 of a roll left. The stuff works great and at a fraction of the Dynamat price. I was warned by people who had not used this stuff that it would smell when exposed to heat but after several trips to Death Valley and living in So Cal I have not had any issue with smell at all. Oh I also lined the inside of the seat box.
Jason M 07-30-2006, 05:25 PM I am super interested to hear how this turns out.
I want to use it on my 60 and Dads rover.

PTSchram 07-31-2006, 07:15 AM Jonathan, I'm gonna laugh about that one for a long time. Who'd a thunk he'd end up with such a cute woman helping him wrench after he posted that pic?
Back on topic, how well would the "Forti-flash hold up to the incredible heat my Disco dissipates through the tranny tunnel and floor? After removing the carpet (mud and water soaked), the truck becomes unbearably hot.

I have found that this stuff holds up great to heat. As mentioned above I have it on my trans tunnel and it does fine. I gave some to a friend who was complaining about excessive heat in his D-90 and it worked great it stopping the transfer of heat into the cab.

$89! OMG! If I had that kinda money, I'd have two shocks on the back and not just one (until the last one remaining breaks:flipoff2:).
(can you buy smaller quantities?)

And i thought I was cheap. I bought the stuff called peel n seel. I bet the stuff Slade got comes in smaller quantities.
Slade, what was the price and where did you get it?
kellymoe 07-31-2006, 09:47 AM PT,
PM me your address and I will send you a few feet of the stuff I have. I think I have enough left to cover the tunnel.
Serious One 07-31-2006, 01:39 PM Go to Lowes (not Home Depot...they don't carry it), and look in the roofing section. You can buy 25 feet of it for about $14 I believe. Comes in a blue/white wrapper.
My neighbor turned me onto the stuff. He's a pit-crew member for a local short track race-car team, and they've done it to a bunch of their race cars. He's done it to his Maxima and liked it a lot. I've driven around a little since I've put it in, not enough to say 'definitively' weather it works or not.
Sure looks like Dynamat to me though.
PTSchram 07-31-2006, 01:55 PM I'm not worried about the noise so much as the heat. Now that I finally got a new(er) front diff in my truck, it's almost bearable. Better than a Series, but every time I drive a client's truck, I'm reminded what they're supposed to be like.
aloharover 07-31-2006, 01:55 PM How thick is it?
Is it as heavy as Dynamat?

Serious One 07-31-2006, 10:04 PM Jeff,
You got it. Hinges are on my list for tomorrow now that the doors and glass are done.
Here's a pic of the inner door panel lined with the material.

aloharover 12-27-2006, 09:55 AM Yeah, bringing this one back.
Has anyone ever painted over this stuff? Or better yet applied DIY liner?
Thinking about the bulkhead, fllor boards, and seat box on the Series.
revor 12-27-2006, 10:49 AM I've done Herculiner and Durabak we use the Durabak product here at work as well. Both seem to work well and are long lived.... As in any coating the durability is all in teh prep.
dieselcruiserhead 12-27-2006, 11:40 AM Herculiner and Durabak are exactly the same material, confirmed by Durabak once when I ran out. For waht its worth...
On the sound deadening, I was thinking I would take this route too but started reading and Berg on this forum emailed me this link...
(full on sound deadening dorkiness - hours long)

Makes me think twice about the asphalt based deadeners. But on a good note, turns out that the cheap stuff from Lowe's and HD are EXACTLY THE SAME THING also as the cheap sound deadeners. Gets both real hot and real cold around here so I figured one more cost that I can barely afford into the equation, and maybe do the more expensive deadener...
Was doing some other research, I heard that heater duct adhesive insulation works pretty well. Not sure if that is asphalt based or not..
dieselcruiserhead 12-27-2006, 12:11 PM Found this link regarding the Frost King. Not black so doesn't look asphalt to me, more like a foam?

Some are saying that it can trap moisture though...
revor 12-27-2006, 12:18 PM We use the Durabak for color choices. Herculiner comes in .... Black... Duraback has many colors.

Yeah I have a box of those in the center cubby.
But they are impractical for the weeones.
I have duralined the 88 and I love it. Did this 4 years ago to the entire inside of the tub, as well as the cab area. Hoses out great and is very durable.
Part of the 'new' truck design is to have more sound/heat insulation. I like the idea of cheep dynamat.
All the steel is getting galvanized. So I am not overly concerned about trapped moister.
I have some galved sheet metal scraps and what I am going to do is some tests to see if I can get it primed, then have the insulation stick to the primer, then have the duraliner stick to that.

Cool, I look forward to seeing the results of your tests!
Happy New Year !!
aloharover 12-28-2006, 11:49 AM I also have the oven I used for baking powder coated items and gun parts.
So I can do some real testing. Back at 150 for an hour, then stick out side in a snow bank, and repeat.
