When I swapped a 4.0 into my 90 YJ in place of the 258 I had to do the whole CPS relocation bc my older flywheel didn't have the correct notching to be read by the CPS. I went with Advance Adapters kit AA part#716012, It was like $250 or so and did the trick.

did you drill and tap the tranny? what did the flexplate come from? the distance could be off from the cps to flexplate. It picks up the signal using the spaces in the flexplate. What year did the tranny come from we need the whole story. I personally would try to figure it out rather than run a cps kit

Have you bypassed the neutral safety switch? I think it just needs to be grounded.
edit: If it cranks then this is not an issue.

yes it cranks. the tranny comes from a 99 tj tf 999 has factory hole in it. . by the other threads here it says to use a flexplate from 90 yj but i really dont remember seeing any notches on it so looks like time to relocate. i have tried diff postion on tps. we are not getting any spark no matter were we put it. should there be power to the wire when cranking .

There are two different types of crank sensors for the 999. I ran into this once, does it ever act like it is trying to fire? You might not have the right one, I would not relocate as it is $$$. You just need to make sure that you have the right combination of sensor and flywheel.

'90 YJ doesn't have fuel injection so I'd be surprised if it had a CPS...

the flywheel you need should look something like this. the CPS is triggered byt he square holes in the sheetmetal ring around the perimeter of the flywheel. a 90 YJ has a 4.2... us the flex plate from a 91-95 or 97-99 yj/tj
