: Modifying e-brake questions
ouibus 04-22-2002, 09:13 PM I am wanting to ditch the stock e-brake on the back of my t-case. I was wondering if the yokes that come off the rear of Toyota truck t-case would work to replace the brake drum yoke on the LC t-case. Anybody ever heard of anyone of doing this?
Also, what is the best way to seal that yoke that fits in the back. I have a new seal for it, but I have heard there are some other things that you can do to keep it sealed. Just curious. Thomas
Cruzilla 04-23-2002, 09:06 AM Bad news, no the shafts are not the same size, t-case is bigger.
I made my own disk e-brake with the rotor/caliper from a import car, works great!
BJ On Roids 04-23-2002, 02:23 PM cruzilla have you got any pics?
rob@hawkinstpt.com.au
because i have done mine on the spliut case, but i had handbrake rear drums, ive never seen one done with the drum brake flange, cause we normally swap the two shafts around to fit it!!
Cruzilla 04-23-2002, 04:43 PM I don't as of yet but I will soon.

ouibus 04-23-2002, 09:14 PM Cruzilla,
I would like to see pics of that as well. Also, is the caliper that you are using hyraulic or cable operated? I am very interested in doing this, if I can't ditch the stock e-brake. Would you be willing to divulge from what vehicle you got the parts from. Just curious.
Cruzilla 04-24-2002, 10:53 AM Yea I would be willing to help, but there are some liability issues....
I am swaping out my auto for a ranger torque splitter, sm420, late 3spd t-case with the disk e-brake this weekend, and will get pic's of the whole swap as it goes.
The caliper is a mechcanical / hydraulic. all you got to do is plug up the hydro side and use the mech E-brake lever on the caliper.
Once you set the calipers hydraulic side, it ratchets the e-brake clearance automaticly. then plug up the hole( I will use a grease-sert so I can re-set the caliper when I chang pads(if I ever need to, that is) and hook up manual cable to the lever.
As far as the rotor goes, all ya gotta do is turn the outside of the drum off so you create a flange, make sure the the OD of the flange is within a .001 of the inside of the rotor hat ( that way it will index) and swap out the studs for longer grade 8 bolts, put the rotor on the t-case side of the flange and the driveline on the normal side and there you have it!!
Mr McGee 04-24-2002, 02:41 PM what vehicle did you get said rotor and caliper from???
also, just post pics when you get them--no rush...i would just like to know what vehicle i have to steal some brakes from..heh heh:D
Cruzilla 04-25-2002, 06:35 AM I got the caliper and rotor hat from the rear ( only the rear disk brakes have a manual emergency brake lever! ) of a suzuki swift.
I feel any rear disk setup will work, the key is get as small a hat as you can find. The one on the Swift is 8.5" so it is only 1/4" bigger (OD)than the toy drum. But the real trick is mounting it to the t-case, had to do some serious astro-engineering to get this done. If you look at the origonal mount for the caliper on the swift ,I think you will see how to do it.
Any way I will post pics as soon as I can, by the way(noob question here!) how do you post pics without being a member?

Land Crusher 04-26-2002, 04:31 PM any one though about turning the drum into
a disk ?
I saw it done one time end up with a small
disk.
familywagon 04-26-2002, 07:18 PM Thomas...I'll come out and pick up your coil sprung bride to be(how long have you two been engaged anyway?)and my old 35's too,and then you can just forget about the e-brake!!!;) Is you rig still blue?Sell me something off of it, it will make you feel better:)We have one of the Suzuki's that Cruzilla is talking about here where I work...if you call me   I could get some pics of the parts to you soon! The RS9000's are calling me...listen...hear that?...It's the 8274 begging you to sell...SELLsell sell :usa: :usa: :usa: :usa: :usa: Later...Kyia
Cruzilla 04-26-2002, 10:46 PM The only problem with turning the drum into a disk is the smaller the OD of the disk the less leverage you have for the caliper. But hey that might be big enough.
