Okay, where did you guys weld the mounts? I suppose I could lower the engine down into the engine compartment, but my wife is the one helping me with this part, and to be honest, I don't trust her, she's liable to drop the damn thing on me. Anyone got some pictures or a website or something? Everything I found so far is just some college kid telling me how fast it goes now...
Also, there is nothing stopping me from re-using the engine mount brackets off the car I got the 305 out of, is there?
I searched, but couldn't find anything in the archives about this...

Typically people weld them to the frame, but you may be able to find a better place!:flipoff2:
You should bolt the mounts to the block and lower it into place to make sure it has firewall clearance and is lined up with the rearend. It would really suck if you welded the mounts in place, found out you couldn't get the engine in because the distributor is hitting on the firewall, and you had to cut the mounts off. I guess you could just tack weld them on, lower the engine in place, and then check for clearance, but that sounds like a lot more work than necessary.

I bolted mine to the engine and lowered the whole thing in. adjusted as necessary and welded away.:)

I did the same thing but made my own mounts. I re-used my stock Jeep polyurethane bushings. You can see pics on my web site: www.patooyee.com. Just click on the BIG YELLOW BUILDUP link.

I bolted my engine to my tranny and to my t-case and then lowered it in to place, figured out where it needed to go and then took it out, welded the mounts and droped the engine and everything else back in and bolted it together. I would get new mounts for it while there is nothing stopping you from using the old ones it would probably be preferable for strength and probably ease of welding too if you had new ones that wern't old and covered in heaven only knows what like my old ones were.

i started with the bolt on angle brackets/mounts from an 80's full size chevy. i cut the tab off one side, lowered it in to the frame, adjusted as needed and welded away. cheap and easy.
