Please excuse the unfinished welds, missing bolt in mount, etc...I'm still trying to finish this thing. In the meantime, here are some pics. It a YJ PS Box (76 casting 4 bolt box) with the YJ Cast bracket.

Looks sweet, thanks for the pics :flipoff2:

Is that a dropped pitman arm, or is that stock?

If I remember correctly, it's a YJ 2" drop pitman tapered to fit the larger TRE's...I have a bunch of pitmans around..I don't know which one I'm going with yet.

So you are doing Power steering on a 4 cyclinder? Why did you not do the standard Scout 2 box conversion that everyone usually does? Curiosity in the am has got me.

Well, mostly because my buddy had this conversion done on his and it looked like $hit...and because that last thing that I want to be is like everyone else;)

and it was a 4cyl....there's a Chevy Small Block tucked in there now:D

So we got that 1/4 elliptic thing going and drove it around town a bit. You should have seen the old people stare...kinda like they are saying "is that a...it is, wow ~ I used to have one of those...don't remember it being so big tho...."

Anyway, the biggest problem I had was the steering. The stock Scout II box just locked up when trying to turn the 42s. Not only that but the owner destroyed many Scout II boxes on that frame so now its a flexy flyer.

We decided to grab a 1-ton box off a 2WD Chevy (has the right pitman arm setup) and ran with it. Turns out it didn't fit becuase it was a reverse cut box like the one you are using. So we hit some junkyards and found a 1-ton box off an IH pickup. It was the exact box from the chevy, but it was standard cut (the pitman sticks out forward of the box). We are mounting that one to the rig now. Seems to turn the 42s pretty easy.

the cool thing is that our part supplier has the boxes in stock. $176 + $220 core (don't ask why the core is so much ~ they must be real nice boat anchors).

I'll post pictures later - Keep me informed of how the YJ box works out. Snoopy is going to full-widths w/ lockers and 38.5x14.50 SXs - kinda worried about the steering - The box setup looks like it'll work since its inside the frame (out of the wheels way).

Cool.

nice pics, how do you get to the heads of the 2 top box bolts?

Sorry, the pics didn't go high enough...the bolts go all the way through the frame with sleeves so that it won't collapse. This is the exact way that the YJ is set up.

Nice work SD. Are you going to run a brace from the sector shaft area of the box up to the frame?

Yeah..I'm working on it...My old one won't work. Anyone know where to get just the clamp part for a reasonable price..I know that MORE sells them but I did say REASONABLE PRICE!;)

A&A has a set of clamps for a VW front end. They are cheap. I"m not sure how well they fit a steering box but it's worth a look.

looks like a nice taped hole next to the sector shaft there.

why not just fab a brace with two holes one large for the sector shaft one smaller to bolt to that hole .

then either go back to the frame or to the cross front crossmember

looks very cool!

Great pics. Someone just gave me a great way to mount the waggy box in mine. Changed out the axles to get the crossover steering setup, the front isnt a 44 yet but it is better than stock.

Cool.

I don't understand. Can't you run ANY box, as long as mount it in the right spot.

For example: If you have a 2wd Chevy box and mount it AHEAD of the steering components, so that the Drag link is behind (towards the pass compartment) of the box then having the pitman arm towards the back is what you want.

Just wondering since I'm thinking of getting a different box.

What's wrong with the SII box? Change out the pitman arm if you don't like the loooooooooooooooooooooooooooong SII arm.

If you mount the box forward the 42's turn into it and kill your turning radius. Thats why you can't just put them ahead of the steering components, the box interferes with the tires.

Come awn JD, don't you know I have the waggy arm?!

I didn't think of the tire turning into them.

I think I just need to put my AGR super pump on it and my steering should be fine :p *I HOPE*

take that YJ mount and cut off the angle part...I swear it is 100% better run flat!
