I'm installing Warn's full float axle kit in the rear D44 of a 69CJ. Warn says if you snap a shaft, you can still drive home by remving the shaft and/or simplpy unlocking that side. So this got me to wondering... If one is in a slippery off-camber situation and the back keeps wanting to come around; or if one gets out in the packed snow or ice, will unlocking one side effectively simulate an open diff and restore some of the traction needed - WITHOUT jamming up the locker?

It would effectively simulate one-wheel drive. It might help a little in the situation you mention, but not as much as an open differential would.
