Started up the Ramjet last night. Fired right up. :D :D :D I figured I'd have to piss around with it for sure, but it sputtered to life after the third or fourth crank like it had been shut off ten minutes ago...

Sounded pretty mean breathing straight outta the headers. :D

Just waiting on a clutch line and a few driveshaft parts...

:D :) :D :)
Jake

P.S.
I'll post some pics after I clean out the engine compartment so I don't have to listen to everyone whine about it... :flipoff2:

Sure, if I can swing it...

...But I'm relatively sure I will have already "tested it out" by then. ;)

1992 Chevy NV4500 (6.34:1 first baby!) and 1993 Chevy NP241 with the JB SYE.

It worked out slick. I didn't even have to alter the driveshafts. I had an NP231 with the Currie SYE and the Peugeot BA-10/5 to begin with... The combination of a shorter SYE (JB vs Currie) and the elimination of the Currie drive flange (along with the fact that my shaft was just a hair on the short side) allowed me to keep my rear driveshaft. I just had to change over the end of the CV assembly to allow it to bolt to a yoke. The much longer front output shaft on the 241C allowed me to keep the same front drive shaft as well.

Yep, IFS Chebby's are drivers side drop.

Close.

1988+ Chevy TRUCKS have the driver's side drop. I believe the Blazers/Tahoes and the 'burbans kept the passenger-side drop

Supergper:
The 241 worked out sweet for me. I paid 400 for the case (I'm sure you could find one cheaper if you looked), another $275 for the JB SYE kit and around $150 or so for the 32-spline input gear. If you have a 700R4 you can just keep the 27-spline input that comes with it and save the $150, but I needed the 32-spline for the NV4500.

The 241C has the long 32-spline front output with a 1330-sized spicer flange. Instead of converting to the Dodge front output shaft, You can remove this flange, cut it in two (VERY CAREFULLY and VERY STRAIGHT) just after the area where it expands into a bell shape and then just bolt on a standard $30 dollar 32-spline Spicer output yoke (just like the rear output) using the rear portion of the old flange as a spacer/inner bearing contact surface. Also make sure you use a little silicone on the mating surfaces between the yoke and spacer or it will weep ATF.

I'll post some pics soon...

Jake

Even after they went IFS:confused: That would be odd, the front end would be completly different in the SUV's then it is in the trucks. GM is big on interchangeable parts....

I could be wrong, but this is what I read elsewhere...Hmmm

O.K. I just checked the Pirate's Bible: http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/bible/index.html

It looks like just the 88-91 Blazer/'Burbans must've had the PSGR side drop... They probably switched everything over to the driver's side after '91...

Anyone know for sure?

88-91 Blazers/subs were solid axle fronts. After that they changed body style and went to IFS.

The Turbo 350 and the 700R4 have the same 27 spline shaft. The only issue might be the length of the tail shaft on the turbo 350.

Supergper: If you are interested in a spare case I have send me a PM. I'm cleaning house and am willing to sell it reasonably priced.

Jakester...

Did the RamJet go in nice and easily? I'm thinking about using one for my TJ. Not going to use TJ wiring though. Gonna use a painless chasis harness. I just wanted to know if there's any hidden issues with its installation.

A monkey could've installed it. ;) You don't need a wiring harness, Just a positive wire, a ground, and few other incidentals.

Good luck with your gauges though... They run off a bus in a TJ... I suppose you might be able to just use adapters to get your stock sensors to plug into the holes in the Ramjet... Maybe you do need a harness... :D

The biggest pain in the ass were the accessory mounts. The long water pump sux. If I had it to do all over again I'd ditch it for a short water pump. I found a bracket to hold both my stock Alterantor and PS pump in a junked '92 Chevy pickup with a 350. I had to do a couple of slight mods, but otherwise it worked out great. The donor truck was serpentine, but the V-belts lined up pretty good...

I spent a couple frustrating evenings trying to get my Black Magic 150 fan to fit in the space between a Griffin radiator and that fawkin' water pump, but ultimately just gave it up in utter disgust. I said fawk it and bought an engine-driven fan. I'll add a shroud later if I find out it runs hot.

Oh, and don't expect it to be cheap. I don't know how built your TJ is already, but if you just drop one of these engines into a TJ with the stock drivetrain, you'll be breaking shit the first time you pull outta the driveway. I already had my axles done (waggy 44s--admittedly marginal for this much juice) and I replaced everything upstream of them over the course of this swap. I'm well over 10 grand...

HTH,
Jake

(pssst... anybody wanna buy a black magic 150 electric fan--scuffed, but otherwise never used? :D )

What do you want for it? I am trying to find a fan shroud to cover the mechanical fan on my 350 in my YJ. This sounds like it may be a better fix. PM me!
